Even Southerners are not that backward

The plan is to treat the roads with de-icing chemicals so the snow melts - that plan blows up if it is very cold (it was in the mid-20s when the snow started and went to 12 this morning) and the treatment trucks cannot get out on the roads before everyone acts as if it is War Of The Worlds and jams all the roads

They should have closed the schools yesterday and told everyone to stay home. They did that yesterday in Raleigh where I have family - snow did not arrive until evening there and folks are complaining about wasting $$ by closing the schools.

Cost effective solution here should be to accept the fact every few years you lose a couple of workdays to ice or snow and make sure you buy your alcohol in advance

So you need bigger government to plow 2" of snow?

Look I understand not being ready for it, it's not something they have to deal with on a regular basis.
Out here in San Diego, if it rains for more than an hour, the freeways shut down.

I was leaving the house one morning, and ALL of the major freeways were stopped, because they had become inundated with automobile accidents. Fifty-six accidents... some involving up to eight cars... by 6:30am.

If it ever snowed out here... oh man... FEMA might as well just nuke the entire area.

About the only time when roads, schools get shut down here is if the plows can't keep up with the drifting snow.

Then it looks something like this.

Or if some farmer forgets he's irrigating and floods out a stretch of road.

This story is not going the way the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce might have hoped

Atlanta chaos: Like a scene from 'The Walking Dead'

But every dark cloud has a silver lining

Atlanta snowstorm may mean Halloween baby boom

If some recent severe weather events around the country are any indication, Atlanta-area hospital maternity wards may want to be sure they have some extra staff working close to Halloween.

For the lucky Atlantans who were able to actually make it home from Tuesday's snowstorm traffic jam, Wednesday may have been a day when they had some idle time on their hands....

Dr. Robert Graebe at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J., was quoted by New York's Fox 5 News as saying nine months after Hurricane Sandy, his neonatal unit saw a 30 percent jump in deliveries from the previous year.

“It was a crazy time,” Dr. Steven Morgan, who practices obstetrics and gynecology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, N.J., told the New York Daily News. “A lot of people were home, a lot of people didn’t have TV,

Atlanta has maintained TV - maybe alternatives are explored only after TV is no longer available

So is this an October baby watch or baby warning?

Don't wanna see the ATL hospitals left unprepared...

No danger of snow in October - only problem will be if it hits on a Saturday and everyone has called off sick to watch UGA football

I feel so badly for those in Georgia with their 20-30 degree weather and 2" of snow.

I lied. I really don't. Seriously.

Just talked to my parents who live around Myrtle Beach. They got 1 POWERFUL inch of snow and ice and the town has basically shut down for 2 1/2 days through tomorrow at noon.

1" of snow? OMG! It's Doomsday!
