Default Look for Steelers to start making moves

With the start of the NFL new year eight days away, it has been largely quiet on the Steelers’ front.

Expect that to change this week...

Ike and Levi will be the first ones to go.

People have to accept the fact that Polamalu may indeed be released if an agreement can't be reached.

Agree! But I have to believe that Polamalu does not strike me as be money hungry or greedy by any means. He appreciates the finer things in life. I believe he will restructure or take pay cut.

People also have to accept that fact that Troy is just as likely to be extended.

As for Ike, if he's cut it means big things are coming. But a pay cut and no big moves are more likely.

I want to believe this too, but Troy saying he "wants to honor his contract" makes me believe otherwise.

Extended? Doubtful. Not at 32 and Shamarko waiting in the wings. If anything, he's going to be asked to take a pay cut. Why push more dead money down the road and extend the inevitable?

Ike can get released purely for cap reasons. Keep in mind, even at 133 million we're roughly 8 million over. Cutting Levi and Ike ensures that we're not only in cap compliance, but able to sign our rookies.

Ike shouldn't be mentioned with Troy. It's obvious they're willing to move on from Ike because he's already lost playing time. It's been quite the opposite with Troy. He was asked to do more than ever last season, to mixed success due to playing out of position. And considering they don't have a starting FS on the roster at the moment, Shark might not be waiting in the wings just yet. I don't want to see it, but he may very well be our starter back there next to Troy.

Also, they're not $8 million over. It's roughly $6. Cutting Levi gets them under.

What part of "honoring his contract," makes him money hungry or greedy?

The Pittsburgh #Steelers have restructured TE Heath Miller's contract to create additional cap space.
