I personally love the fact that Heath could be extended, hell why not free up some cap space and allow yourself some room to deal with other players as well as keeping one of the best TE's in the game, to me this is a "no-brainer". I would like to see Troy and Ben get the extensions needed to put that talk to bed, it sure would be nice to not hear so much about Ben and his contract and his possibly playing somewhere else.

Fantastic! Brown and Timmons should be next in line. Hello $12 million in cap space!

Report: Steelers rework Heath Millerís contract

Posted by Mike Wilkening on March 3, 2014

The Steelers have reportedly created some salary cap flexibility for 2014.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Steelers have reworked tight end Heath Millerís contract.

Millerís 2014 salary cap number was $9.5 million, Rapoport reported Monday, but it has now been reduced for the upcoming league year. He is in the final year of his contract and was due $6.02 million, per Rotoworld salary figures.

The 31-year-old Miller hauled in 58 passes for 593 yards and one touchdown in 2013. He has played at least 14 games in all nine of his seasons with Pittsburgh, catching 466 passes for 5,273 yards and 40 TDs in regular season play. He has long drawn raves for his fine all-around play, with Cardinals head coach and former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians recently going so far as to say that he believes Miller remains the best tight end in the game.

im not exactly sure how extension work...but brown haw 4 years left on his current contract and timmons has 3 years! i dont know how they would move all that cap money further into a contract? now...they could save some serious bank on an extension with ike and troy if they are down with that! if not...bye bye!!!

Sorry. I can see how that could have been confusing. Brown and Timmons get restructured, not extended.

I love Heath. One of my favorite Steelers. Not sure what his cap hit is, but Do you really want to extend a guy who will be 32 when the season starts, had a mediocre season last year coming off a major knee injury. He may never be the same guy. He dropped some balls last year, he would have never dropped in the past. I know we don't have another option on the team, but this is the year we have to draft receiving TE some where.
