With the drops, fumbles and injuries I'd say let him walk unless we get him at a bargain. It still sucks missing that extra 3rd rounder from the Cheatriots but we were supposed to be good this past year so who knew we would blow. I like Wheaton enough and a high round d WR word probably be, stats wise, just as good as Sanders. I know a lot folks here aren't all that fond of a 1st round WR but unless somebody falls, Dennard, I'd say take the best WR available.

I think it would be nice if we had brown, cotchery and sanders ALL locked up at good values....or any other good #2.

Throw Wheaton in the mix and we wouldn't even need to think about offense unless there were absolute steals.
If we're being fair, I'm not sure what the going rate of number 2 receivers are right now. If you look at a team like the Broncos, 5 million is about right but those guys are going to earn big paydays because of this season. The teams that have true number one and two receivers have at least one of those guys in their rookie deals (i.e, Julio Jones and Roddy White or Cobb and Nelson).

5 million for a guy that'll get close to 1000 yards sounds about right. However, if we think that Markus is going to develop into a better receiver than Manny (I definitely think so) than we should let him walk. In my opinion, this is a harder decision than the Worilds/Woodley one.

I have no problem letting Sanders go. To me, he has been a big disappointment. With the combination of speed, route running, and run after catch, he should be much more productive than he has been. I don't know what he does at practice, but he has not improved his hands, his footwork while trying to catch the ball along the sidelines, and his ability to catch the ball on deep throws with his back to the quarterback. He has had way too many drops. You can live with some drops from a dynamic player, but Sanders has committed some of his worst mistakes at big moments and pressure moments in games.....That's not good.

I think Sanders is as good as he's ever going to be as an outside receiver. I think he can do more in a different system. He would be better in the Patriots system with picks, rubs, and crossing patterns all day long. He struggles along the sidelines and end zone catching the ball and getting his feet in bounds.

He's a good guy and has never been any trouble to the team, but I think it's time to see what Wheaton, Brown, and Moye can do. A big, athletic WR is a possibility in the first couple rounds of the draft as well. I don't think he will be missed on the field, and I think whoever replaces him will be an improvement. Why pay an underachiever $5 mil a year when there are many needs on this team, and I think other players on the roster can be better players with just a little experience.

Wait for him to not get the amount he's after (5 years 30 mil range) and then go after him on an incentive laden 1 year deal so he can play his stock up.

Max offer: 3 years 11.5 million. We drafted Wheaton to be a #2 not a #3. Don't hold him back.

Here is 33 - 50 for 2013 NFL reciever salaries.

34.AJ Green Bengals $4,922,025
35.Justin Blackmon Jaguars $4,628,003
36.Eddie Royal Chargers $4,500,000
37.Nate Washington Titans $4,466,667
38.Delanie Walker Titans $4,375,000
39.Jordy Nelson Packers $4,200,000
40.Julio Jones Falcons $4,045,938
41.Lance Moore Saints $4,020,000
42.Malcom Floyd Chargers $3,850,000
43.Earl Bennett Bears $3,750,000
44.Brandon Gibson Dolphins $3,260,000
45.Jacoby Jones Ravens $3,250,000
46.James Jones Packers $3,233,333
47.Tavon Austin Rams $3,187,751

I believe Sanders gets a large enough offer to take us out of consideration. Let Wheaton step in this next year, resign Cotch, and this draft is deep in WRs. Look for another young player to step in. We need a youth movement to relieve our Cap situation so we can sign players like Ben and Worilds. We needed space last year to keep players like Lewis. It is time to see if our young guys can get it done and if we can still draft.

Dan Snyder likes this.

(Really though, he'll get a $6 million/year deal from the Taperiots.)

Bill Belichick will turn Sanders into a better Jerry Rice.

I wouldn't be comfortable with Cotchery as our #2 receiver. He's a solid #3.

Sanders had a golden opportunity to emerge this year as a starter and basically played like he has every year. Ok but nothing special. I really wouldn't care either way if he stayed (at the right price) or left.
