The article is just re-hashing the same things we have knows now for the past two years. We can beat this to death but we all know that this defense needs re-building BIG TIME! We also need to add serious depth as well because our back-ups would be 3rd's on other teams with a strong D (Seattle). In my opinion, the only one that should be back on this defense as a starter is Troy & Worilds. I would only take Ike back on a reduced salary and as a back-up. I know right now we really don't have another starter but Ike is now a liability instead of an asset but he would be good to mentor a young guy, drafted player. Woodley should be cut/designated for after June 1st. Ziggy, unfortunately cannot play at the level that is required for this D. Keisel is still more effective when he is not hurt. To be honest with everyone, it may take this and the next draft to get things sorted out on D, assuming we hit on these picks as well.

My bad. I guess I should have been more clear. I only mentioned the guys that everybody talks about getting old and may be released for age or payroll purposes or guys that are free agents now. Obviously Timmons and Heyward are both BEASTS & should be on the team. In fact, Heyward needs to be re-signed, the sooner the better. Hope that clarifies it a little more.

How can you possibly judge a player after one season? Oh wait, it's the guy who says Lawrence Timmons is a bust and Roethlisberger is overrated. Gotcha.

when the game slows down for Jones, I think he's going to shine on this defense. Will it be this year? I think if he gets a lot of playing time it will. I also like Vince Williams. For as deep in the draft as we picked him up, I think he can be a starter in this league.

Oh absolutely. Le'Veon said the game slowed down for him about half way into the season and that's when things really started to pick up for him. It's all about adjusting to the speed of the game at the next level. Jarvis had to learn the hard way that he can't beat NFL tackles with just his motor this season. Not only has he fully acknowledged this, but he's dedicated to improving. I love this kids work ethic. Unfortunately for Jarvis, the NFL requires more out of defensive coordinators than "use your motor" like he was told at Georgia.

As for VW, I'm right there with ya. He was improving in coverage to become a three down Linebacker (which we haven't had in years due to Foote's age slowing him down). I think another offseason is going to do wonders for this kid. That is assuming of course that we don't draft Mosley.

Or we can listen to @jb500ex and just cut Jarvis right now because he sucks. Pass rushers have to get 10 sacks in their first year, make the Pro Bowl, become a first team All Pro selection or they can get the fuck out.

Some people.

I think a change needs to be made with defensive coordinator and NOW is the time. Let's get some fresh ideas. LeBeau is a great coach but let's not let it become Noll situation where a decade passes. Obviously it won't happen but I'd like to see Butler get a shot.

Butler shouldnt be the next DC When its time for a change its should be a new face and fresh ideas. That IMO will be the best way to rejuvenate and refocus.
Next season is going to be critical for many on the staff. From top to bottom.

That's the only explaination on why we kept him and not Lewis. That whole ordeal baffled me as well as bringing Gay back. Should've cut Ike, left Gay where he was, and sign Lewis and let the chips fall where they may.
