Default So, they're talking about suspending Gordon for the year. Is that really fair?

I'm not opposed to hamstringing the Browns in any way, but should a guy be suspended for a season for smoking weed in this day and age? I mean, the stuff is legal in some states. How do you justify suspending a goy for smoking dope, when he can legally walk into a shop while he's vacationing in Colorado and buy a couple bones to smoke back at the hotel? I can see HGH, steroids, coke, and all, but it's not like weed is a performance enhancing drug. It's not illegal like coke. It doesn't make you nuts like roids, It doesn't give you the giant Barry Bonds head like HGH. I dunno. Someone's gonna have to make an argument here, because I don't see it.

There was a rule. He knew about the rule and he broke that rule.

Actions have consequences.

Have to agree with that and this is coming from someone who supports the legalization of marijuana. Gordon's an idiot and I hope his idiocy costs the Browns big time.

This isn't first mistake. This isn't a second. He doesn't get it. Make him get it.

Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's something that the league should or must condone.

(Also coming from someone who fully supports the legalization of all drugs)

Josh Gordon is on a contract worth $5.34 million over 4 years to play a game. I think getting that compensation granted that he refrains from smoking marijuana is a pretty good exchange.

Just arguing 'on principle', I would agree that it seems 'unfair' to suspend a player for something that [technically] legal. HOWEVER, if Gordon signs a contract and one of the stipulations of employment is 'do not use drugs' and he breaks that rule, then he is as fault.

Furthermore, one of Gordon's previous infractions was for a more serious drug: codeine.

Many of us are subject to random drug testing as a condition of employment.. Although pot never hurt anyone, players know the rules when they accept employment in the NFL. It's up to the players union to negotiate taking pot off the banned list. Untill this is done, players must abide by the terms of employment, just like the rest of the American workers.

I guess you're right. But if I was the NFLPA, I would make sure the next contract excludes dope.

Honest question: isn't 'dope' slang for harder drugs?
