Default Pittsburgh Steelers Would Be Good Home For Michael Sam

It is 2014, and we finally have come to the moment where an openly gay athlete plays in the NFL (well almost). And, the Pittsburgh Steelers would be a good home for someone with Michael Sam’s skill and character.

After consecutive 8-8 season I don't think the Steelers should consider anything other than can the player help us win. I think its a great story but it should be a non factor when comes time to the draft. If he is best player on the board then draft him regardless of sexual orientation.

I'm telling you though, the locker room is not a place you want to mess with when it comes to professional athletes. People can say what they want regarding this is 2014, it's shouldn't be a problem now BUT, you know that there will be. You would not want to mess with the chemistry in the locker room. Just saying.

Is he the best defensive lineman on the board when we're looking at that position? If so, draft him. If not, don't.

Like when minorities weren't allowed to join major sports' leagues? What if the Dodgers didn't take Jackie Robinson? Now I'm not comparing Sam to being a great in the NFL, but what I'm saying is results matter, not petty, non-factor differences. If Sam is the best player on the board, then I'd say go for it. As long as it helps us win.

If he's there in the 5th I would take him, only if we dont take an OLB earlier(which is very possible)

Kinda worry about the media attention tho....cause we all know its going to happen when Sam is drafted

Ok, I'll be the politically incorrect one. It's only fitting that San Fransisco drafts him

I completely agree about chemistry, sometimes more important than ability but.....that generation sees things differently and views people different than the 40-50 year olds. Their perception is different. Most of those guys work out in gyms that are filled with gay guys who guess what....shower and walk around naked just like the heteros do and Im guessing its no issue.
I hope he is drafting in appropriate position and kicks a$$, and hope Jonathan Martin continues to be a hetero wuss.

Who could possibly want this years SEC DPOY.

Honestly, I can't think of a better person than him to be the first. Having a defensive player, especially a lineman, should remove any questions regarding his "manliness." I know it won't, but the guy was dominate force, in the best conference in college football.
