I disagree completely. Injuries were far and away the leading cause of both 8-8 records. In 2012, the Steelers opened the season with a 6-3 record, but after an injury to Roethlisberger, finished just 2-5. Conversely, the 2013 campaign was marred by early injuries, which ended up being to much to come back from.

If anything, the Seahawks are in the EXACT situation that we were in post 2005, so they are emulating US, not the other way around.
I would also throw the 49ers into the discussion as well. Not only do both teams have to try and maintain their defenses, but both need to pay their QB's as well.

Not too many significant defensive injuries this year except Foote.

maybe not, but the 1st four games would have been a lot different if we had a healthy Pouncey, Heath, and Bell.

And the Foote injury was a killer at the beginning of the season. Williams improved a lot throughout the season, but before that we tried Kion Wilson, and then threw in Polamalu for a while.

Without those injuries, we probably don't go 2-6 the first half of the season.

As I recall, many fans bitched about the Steelers being too cheap to resign their star free agents. We lost Lake, Kevin Green, Woodson, Thigpen, Chad Brown, etc, and everyone complained. Now there's bitching because they do resign their free agents. Fo figure.

the Seahawks had a SB victory coming and now they'll know what it is like just to get back there and win a 2nd - it won't be happening this year - mark it down - injury and parity will catch up with them

I feel pretty comfortable saying the Steelers worst days are over - are they SB ready? Maybe not - but they'll start turning the corner this season.

It's all about cycles and we're on the upswing. Just wait and see. Can't keep everyone forever and need time for new guys to step it up.

I remember Cowher's infamous 3 year drought from 98-00, and then then year before Ben was drafted. Even more importantly was the fact the Steelers were known as one of the few organizations who were all about "next man up", letting free agents walk right before they became too expensive to pay or hit the wall production wise. We were the "winningest" organization in the NFL overall. Somewhere after 2007, we lost our way. Overpaying older players. Poor drafts. Not developing talent. Over reliance on the "franchise QB" strategy to winning. Suspect coaching. I see an organization getting a pass based on historical reputation, but the bottom could easily fall out next season. I'm concerned that Ben's final 4-5 seasons are going to be leading some average Steeler teams. I think the NFL is now strictly a young mans game and paying older expensive veterans is going out of style. Treat it like college with 4-5 year cycles for players, revolving door. We started that trend for the most part but seems we lost our way. How can we get back to long term success?

Dude!? Can you name a successful team that DOES NOT have a franchise QB? That is perhaps the number one quality required to be successful and get you to the SB, firstly, then win it. Sure there's been a couple of teams that got away with it (Giants with Hostetler) but that is not the norm. The reason why we kept this core together for so long is because those core players were the ones that got us where we were for so long! Did you enjoy getting to the AFCCG every 2.5 years and LOOSING every time when we had great defenses, great running games but no franchise QB? I didn't! As soon as we got Ben, WE WON THOSE GAMES, PERIOD! Enough foolish talk!
