Lawyer advice im sure. He wont see time. The legal system doesnt want to destroy families. Alcohol was envolved. Probation with counseling and likely 2 game suspension for first offense. They dated since college, have a child and were engagés to get married this summer anyhow.

Brandon Spikes: I don’t see how anyone can respect Ray Rice

Bills linebacker Brandon Spikes is speaking out strongly against Ravens running back Ray Rice, who was indicted this week for aggravated assault.

Reacting to the news that Rice has just married the woman he is accused of assaulting, Spikes went off on Rice on Twitter.

“That’s him trying to save his image duh,” Spikes wrote of Rice’s wedding.

Spikes said he got angry when he saw the surveillance video that appears to show Rice dragging his unconscious wife out of an elevator, video that was taken, authorities say, moments after Rice punched her and knocked her out.

“I don’t see how anyone can respect him. Put your hands on a woman. The woman that had ur child,” Spikes wrote. “Someone should choke him out. See how he likes it.”

Spikes also tweeted a picture of himself with his mother and wrote, “I was raised by this beautiful woman. She would roll over and die if i put my hands on a woman.”

The Ravens’ only statement since Rice’s indictment was supportive, saying there’s more to Rice than this allegation. That may be true, but if this allegation is proven, then Spikes is right: It’s hard to see how anyone could respect Ray Rice.

Almost every person in jail has a family. I've never seen the legal system buy that one.

Oh right! The ol' "I was drunk" defense. That one always works.

If there is a video showing Ray Rice knocking his fiancè unconscious and he only gets a 2-game suspension after Ben got a 4-game suspension for ACCUSATIONS, then that will be definitive proof of not only his bias against the Steelers, but of Roger Goodell's gross incompetence.

Well, i dont respect him. BUT if he is jailed or suspended for the year..The Ravens will save 9 million on thier cap for 2014 and can do lots with that. Then if jailed two years saves 16 milllion. So we better hope he doesnt get jailed or suspended for the year. They have 2 3rds and 2 4ths in this draft also with plenty of good RBs available.

I don't think he will get suspended for a year, but if there is video proof, he had better get 4 games minimally.

And even if they do suspend him and the Ravens get extra cap money (are we even sure that is true?), it won't do them a lot of good because most of the top free agents will be long gone by then. They will be picking off the scrap heap.

i believe that the Ravens would still have rights to his contract, but it would be like it's on hold. I'm not too sure about that, and can't find it with a quick Google search. But it's the same case if a player retires.

It is True, they can trade for players also. Just traded for C Zuttah from Tampa and LT Monroe last year. Plus can use excess cap money to lock up THIER OWN younger players or carry it over next year. If suspeneded they get prorated Salary + bonus $. Even a 4 game suspension saves them à few million. Rice lost 15 lbs over the offseason was fat, and probably hip injury is healed. Rice if he plays will have a good year.
