It's funny because it's probably true.

Wins are a team statistic, not a quarterback statistic.

Winning big will not earn a team two wins, nor will winning ugly give a team only half a win.

You mean the two teams who had two of the best QBs in NFL history (not to mention great coaches)?

By 'era', the AFC/NFC has gone through natural ebbs and flows of 'best teams' who dominate:

1990-95: BUF/BTL (Best Team Left), DAL/SF
1996-98: DEN, GB
1999-2000: Wild West
2001-2004: IND/NE, PHI/STL
2005-2010: BAL/IND/NE/PIT, NYG...?/BTL (No clear 'dominant' NFC team)
2011-present: DEN/NE, SF/NO

IND/NE are the standouts almost entirely because of their QBs/coaches. The majority of the other 30 teams have, to quote Field of Dreams, "been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again."

---

In the NFL, since 2000, I think every team has made the playoffs except the Bills and maybe the Browns.

In fact, I think every team has made the playoffs at least twice except Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit and maybe Miami.

Comparatively, the MLB has seen plenty of teams go on extended postseason droughts (BAL, KC, MIA, MON/WAS, PIT, SEA, TOR...). Even teams like COL, DET, MIL, SD and TEX went through nearly a decade or more of irrelevance before getting a chance to crack the playoffs during a three/four year window.

The NFL and NHL have figured out parity. The NBA less so, but they make bank and are as popular as ever, so nobody cares.

The MLB is the league waning in popularity.

Combine notebook: Steelers, Cowboys projected to be over new cap figure

By Alan Robinson

INDIANAPOLIS — With the NFL salary cap expected to climb by $7 million, from $123 million to $130 million, the Cowboys and Steelers are the only teams currently over the projected cap. The Steelers are about $9 million over.

Wow, still 9 million over? We'll go down about 6 million when we release Levi Brown. We've got some work to do.

We still have:

Ryan Clark
Ziggy Hood
Larry Foote
Ike Taylor
Jason Worilds
LaMarr Woodley
Felix Jones
Plaxico Burress
Larod Stephens-Howling
Jonathan Dwyer
Emmanuel Sanders
Brett Keisel
Mat McBriar
Jerricho Cotchery

all as possibilities to come off the books. Not all will, but quite a few will which will help bring that number down.
