Woodley was actually one of the best OLB when he signed the extension. It's the risk I would take. I can't say the same to Worilds.

I really hope I'm wrong about Worilds.

Thanks for making me feeling better. Now I hope some teams are willing to overpay him.

Why? If no one overpays him we gain leverage for a long term deal. Unless you don't want him on the team all together, no one going after him is only beneficial to us at this point.

Not sure if he is willing to get a long term deal done. If he stays, I doubt Woodley will be here. He would know that he has a full season to pile up his stats.

Team Chaos having $47 million in cap space but applying the transition rather than franchise tag to Alex Mack today was the latest installment in that saga.

It would be a pretty big gamble of him to not sign a long term deal this year in hopes of getting even more guaranteed money the following year. His earning potential is already pretty damn high, most likely being the best pass rusher on the market. I doubt he would do that, but that's just my opinion.

Woodleys cap hit wouldn't come off till Jun 1st.

I would think we could land him for a 5 year deal for 30-35M, with 15-18M guaranteed if no one offers him a deal.
I'd be in favor of that. Give him close to double the money he would be due this year with the tag. The insurance of the guaranteed money is worth it for him to not risk an injury or a below average year that costs him a big payday next year. His ceiling is no more than 9M per year anyway.
I wouldn't put it past a team that might want him to force our hand on a match. If they go more than 9M per year for 4 years or more, we probably have to let him walk.

Pretty dopey if he didn't sign a long term deal and played for 1 year risking injury.
The Steelers will let the market dictate his value.
We can match any offer that we can accommodate.

If not bye-bye.

I hear you… but, those cuts could have been made, while also signing a top end FA.

Byrd + cuts > Worilds + the same exact cuts
