i didn't think it was a bad move . brady could call it quits anytime in the next couple years. mallet is due a new contract after 2014. doesn't hurt to plan for the inevitable departure of brady...maybe brady has already givin them his retirement plan... maybe they believe mallet is not their guy of the future. i thought greenbay lost their minds when they used a first on rodgers when farve was still playing good..now it looks like a brilliant move.

Garappolo is going to be the second best Quarterback in this draft class behind only Bridgewater.

So apparently, the guy who turned Tom Brady into a fucking legend is now stupid for drafting to secure his team's future at QB?

It's not terrible. Brady is up there in age and they are going to need a heir to him and I have heard good things about this kid's potential but it's no certainty that it's going to work out great necessarily either since a lot of people thought that Belichick was genius for taking Mallett in the third a few ears back and Mallett didn't turn into the trade value guy they thought he would and they chose Kevin (who?) O'Connell in the third round in 2008 and he lasted only one year there . I'm still undecided whether it's Belichick that makes Brady look good or Brady that makes Belichick look good. I think the greater question is Belichick taking a gamble with a d-linemen with two ACL tears to his name. The Pats though will be a legitimate contender for the immediate future.

Belichick's genius does deserve questioning.

Aside form the Spygate years, they haven't won shit. Yes, they make the playoffs, but the AFC East gives them 5-6 easy wins per season. Yes, they have made five SuperBowls, but if they had not taped the "first fifteen" of their opposition during the first three, maybe they don't have those three Lombardis.

Belichick stumbled onto Brady. He was not smarter than everyone else by selecting him in the sixth; it was dumb luck. At times, Belichick didn't even have Brady on the active roster during Brady's rookie seasons.

Look at his drafts. Sure, he is a "genius", because he accumulates tons of draft picks, by trading back. But, the players that he actually selects, usually don't pan out very well. He's been trying to fix that secondary for over a decade. After the Tedy Bruschi group retired, he hasn't had more than two good defenders on that roster.

Speaking of which, people talk about Tomlin winning with Cowher's players, well, Belichick has only won with Pete Carroll's players... and even then, Belichick needed videotapes to help him win.

"If Gronk wasn't injured..." Well, the reason that 31 other teams passed on Gronk was because Gronk was always injured in college. Belichick took a gamble on a player who could not stay healthy; yet Taperiot fans always use Gronk's injuries as an excuse.

Belichick has had some moments of brilliance (e.g. the two tight end sets), but every passing year, it seems that his "genius" label comes more & more into question.

Right. I certainly don't think Belichick is a terrible or even mediocre coach. However, you bring up some legitimate questions about him Teeg. For a guy whose reputation was preceded on being a builder of defense, he hasn't done much since Bruschi retired. I love the "Gronk was injured" excuse that Patriots fans make yet they laugh at the Steelers for the Broncos playoff game where we had five starters out, six I believe if you include Ryan Clark who can't play in Denver due to his sickle cell trait. This kid could prove to be the next Tom Brady or he could prove to be the next Kevin O'Connell/Ryan Mallett. I think Belichick's a good coach for what it's worth but I refuse to put him in the same legendary status I do someone like Vince Lombardi or Chuck Noll.
