If these cows were on that land illegally, the DOJ would've run guns to them and HHS would've issued them EBT cards.

Like I said I don't think anyone questioning whether or not if he's in the wrong, it's the over reaction from the government.

What over reaction? He has been in contempt of an injunction since 1998 and has refused every previous effort by the government to get his cattle off the land. The latest court order gave him 45 days to get his cattle off the land, after which time the court authorized the feds to seize the cattle remaining on the land.

If I was the government's attorney I would file a contempt action, request the court to have him arrested, and request the court to put his ass in jail until he purged himself of the contempt.

Of course if he is like tax protestors against whom I filed contempt actions and the court incarcerated, Bundy presumably will claim his right to ignore an illegitimate government

"I believe this is a sovereign state of Nevada," Bundy said in a radio interview last Thursday. "I abide by all of Nevada state laws. But I don’t recognize the United States government as even existing."

Keeping the cattle off the land is not a matter of fee collection - the purpose is to protect the land from damage associated with the grazing.

So what would you do - send him a bill? Think he would pay?

They should hold him in contempt and lock him up

I'm personally sick of these open-range queens using government land for nothing. They should make drug testing a requirement before a person can let their cattle graze on federal land.

I don't think sending heavily armed agents was going to make him pay any faster, do you? As I said before put a lien on his property and yes arrest him if need be. But they weren't there to arrest him. Confiscate the property along with any cows and auction off if he doesn't pay.

As far as protecting the land I'm sure thats what Reid had in mind when he changed the boundaries of the tortoise’s habitat to accommodate the development of his top donor.

I just believe there's a better way of handling it than with a small army.

They were taking the cattle to sell. The armed agents were in response to his threats. Maybe the feds can play his pathetic game and send in teenage girls to get the cows

It is not a payment issue - it is a trespass issue tied into the monetary sanctions he has incurred for not getting off the land since 1998.

When you move in to confiscate property from folks who do not believe in the authority of the federal government you do not show up with just a handshake and a smile. How many law enforcement agents would you dispatch and what would be the appropriate level of weaponry?
