Default 2012 draft

I can't ever remember being more excited after a draft. I thought it was the best draft in 20+ years, but knew the grade down the road is what would really count. Now I know it only been 2 years< but how has it stacked up?

Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 Draft Picks

1 24 24 David DeCastro OG 6-5 316 22 Stanford
Has yet to earn a pro bowl, but this might be his year with his improvement late in year 2. Still best known for taking out Pouncey on the first drive of season.

2 24 56 Mike Adams OT 6-7 323 22 Ohio St.
He was considered a 1st round talent, but hasn't produced yet. Big year for him...

3 23 86 Sean Spence LB 5-11 231 21 Miami (FL)
Outstanding preseason and looked like a early starter, till a major knee injury. Will he be the same? Like Adams, a big year for him.

4* 14 109 Alameda Ta'amu DT 6-2 348 21 Washington
I had a 2nd round grade on him and was jumping for joy when he was snagged in the 4th. Visions of Big Snack 2.0 started to fade with the law infraction. With that said, I thought he was the one that should have been kept with the last cut last year.

5 24 159 Chris Rainey RB 5-8 180 24 Florida
So much wasted talent... He was a game changer with a Lawrence Phillips head.

7a 24 231 Toney Clemons WR 6-2 210 23 Colorado
I was never high on him.

7b** 33 240 David Paulson TE 6-3 246 23 Oregon
Still on the team for now, but hasn't turned into the receiving threat most had hoped. Will have to fight off a rookie to make the team.

7c** 39 246 Terrence Frederick CB 5-10 187 22 Texas A&M
Not sure what this kid ever did...

7d** 41 248 Kelvin Beachum OG 6-3 303 22 SMU
Outstanding pick! This pick alone raises the drafts stock.

you nailed it. Adams and Spence are likely the difference between this being a good draft and a great draft.

I've already given up on Adams.

Spence's recovery is something I'm very much looking forward to this off season and into the preseason.

DeCastro is going to be a perennial Pro Bowl Guard and Beachum may indeed be the future at LT.

Giving up on Adams is like the Calgary Flames giving up on Brett Hull after 4 years in their system.

Got to have more faith. Give it this season and if he tanks, I'll throw you off the bandwagon and jump off after you.

Ok, fair enough. I think we have to set board-wide expectations for Adams, though. What would qualify as a good season for Adams? Is it taking over one of the Tackle positions? Would it be showing immense improvement in his pass protection, even if it is indeed in spot starts due to injury?

If by this time next season Adams isn't one of the starting Tackles, is he written off?

No.

what if he is good enough and cheap enough to make the 53 man roster as a suitable back up?I think you are trigger happy to shitcan him just because he was a second round pick and did not live up to your expectations.

It's really too bad Rainy and Taamu fucked up cause they both could have been great picks. DeCastro looks like a stud, Adams was the right pick in round 2 even if he never pans out, and Beachum in Round 7 looks like a steal.

@SteelersCanada

Swap Beachum in R2 for Adams... and Adams in R7 for Beachum. When one thinks if it that way, the R2 pick looks good, and the R7 pick is developing nicely.

It's all about the perspective.
