Because they pay the taxes which fund the multi-million dollar stadiums.

Because they pay for the RSNs which make sports franchises multi-million dollar profits.

Because many of them support the team for all 16 games and not just in the playoffs.

Because most teams don't get to make a conference game often, so they should get the chance to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I could care less about the legal aspects of the suit. This dude is just mad that the had to pay three-to-four times markup for tickets. Boo-hoo. So did tons of other people who attended the game.

I don't agree at all. They can't stop scalping period and anyone in the non-restricted area and can jack up the price an see in those restricted areas.

The dollar amount in a suit means nothing. The suit isn't about money.

its about handing over money in exchange for a playoff ticket.

or are you suggesting there is a much broader "grand scheme of things" motive? suuuuuuure.

he's suing for money and publicity, not ot have laws and rules changed.

anyways, i will await my check...

I worded my succinct response pretty poorly.

I meant prevention of out-of-market scalping FROM (not to) out-of-market buyers.

Of course nothing is going to stop scalping, especially to out-of-market customers, but I'm more comfortable with people who are actually from the geographical location scalping as opposed to some 'wise guy' from hundreds/thousands of miles away scalping tickets for a team he has no invested interest in.

Geography dictates that the largest group of fans of a team will be closer in proximity to that team's location.

It therefore seems logical (enough---not entirely) to allow them first/best crack at the best/cheapest tickets; even if their intent is to re-sell.

Yep.

Face value of tix in the top level (section 314, row X) were $105 and were going for between $4-500 each.

Dude was just sore he had to pay markup.

If he's mad that he couldn't get one of the extremely limited 'face value' tickets then he doesn't understand simple math. There were maybe 10-15k tickets available for purchase (I heard only 3k) and there are... 4M people in WA. Plus another four in Oregon. Another four in B.C. Throw in Idaho and that's 1.5 M. (Montana would be another 1.5 M, but I don't think they were included in the coverage area). Even if only 1/100th of all those people (combined population ~14M; 1/10=140k) attempted to get tickets their odds were extremely low.

So even if this guy does have a point, it fails the probability test.

He's griping about a 1/100,000 or worse chance to get a cheap ticket as if he's some special case. He's not.

Again, yep. If he really wanted rules changed, then why did he wait until it was his team 'unfairly treated' and not when his team did the same thing to others?

And why isn't he challenging scalping in general, or the outrageous [escalation in] prices?

He isn't out to change the system, he's out to gain notoriety and make a little easy money along the way because he's butthurt that his team blew a big game to a hated foe and he was too cheap to watch it in person.
