For once and for all: BECAUSE OF THE SALARY CAP - YOU GET PAID FOR FUTURE POTENTIAL AND NOT - I REPEAT NOT - FOR PAST PERFORMANCE.

If there were no salary cap - then you can fault the team for not being "loyal" however, any attempt to reward loyalty or past performance under a salary cap means HURTING the team somewhere else.

I'm pissed off that we kept a mediocre Cornerback on our roster to play opposite Allen, despite his play showing he needs to be relegated to the Nickle role.

We had a lot of issues in our secondary last season, but they were mostly caused by failures of our front seven. When we had to play Troy as a Buck LB. Whoa... let's think about that for a minute....

When you take one of the best safeties in the game out of his regular position, leaving behind an aging before our eyes, Ryan Clark, and a journeyman Will Allen as our defacto safety tandem, it is going to effect our corner play.

This coming season, with a real buck ILB, Troy will be playing his regular position paired with a much faster Mitchell. Having a true 3 down buck linebacker will allow us to run our nickel packages we couldn't use last year, which also happen to provide our various blitzes, will make our corners look a lot better than last year when they were put on a island or hours on end awaiting our pass rush to get to the QB.

Hes talking about how unselfish he is and how the team comes first. Then complains that he was asked to take a cut to better the team, knowing Damn well his play dipped and ain't worth his old contact. He's also throwing unnamed players under the bus, but we all know who he's talking about.

This was kind if shitty to read. I know I'd be pissed too but I wouldn't say Shit like he did.

Better to stay and retire in Pittsburgh and get a respectful send off from the team and fans than go chase money that he won't find else where and then fade into nothing like James Harrison is going to.

I have a hard time faulting him - or any other football players - for being pissed off at shit like this. They have the shortest careers, with no guaranteed contracts. It sucks. It's one thing to have a salary cap, I get the economics of that. But contracts in the NFL mean nothing. In any other sport, the team would be paying Ike his $7 million. You can say that you get paid for future potential, but that $7M was promised to him once based on his future potential. So far as I can tell, NFL contracts are binding on players, not the team.

If I were the NFLPA, I'd say fuck it... one-year contracts for everyone. Period. Everyone would get paid their full money, and if you didn't like the guys you got, you wouldn't have to sign them the next year.

i'd love to see colbert come out to the media and say he's "pissed off , about paying ike taylor all that money in 2013 to stink up the field" ...

that's why ALL contracts should be incentive heavy deals. pay the base salary based on years in the league and the rest is negotiated incentive packages. that way the team doesn't pay steak price for a hamburger and the player either puts up or shuts up.
i've always said boxing should be "winner takes all " , then you'll see a real fight. instead of 2 jackasses hugging each other for 12 rounds and both walk away win or lose millions richer ...

I cannot stand how much unwarranted criticism some of you people give Ike. He's been one of the most underrated Steelers player I have ever witnessed. Sure, he didn't make the splash interceptions, but I can recall numerous games where he would lock up the opposing team's number one. It's so easy for someone to remember giving up 1 touchdown and forget the other 60 minutes of a football game. No cornerback in this league is perfect. Something else, why do you think Troy is allowed to run free more than any other safety in the league?? Because Ike is trusted to lock his man up. I can understand where Ike is coming from with his contract issues, but us as fans should support him even more after helping this team in the salary cap. Class act by Taylor. And a pissed off Ike is a good Ike. I think he's got one more solid year left in the tank and I see him retiring as a Steeler.

Yep. 95% of the defense should have gotten a pay cut... Who was that guy the Bears QB steam rolled when we played them ??? That about summed up the entire defensive season.
