Default Ex-Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall retires to $1.4 million home in Santa Monica

Post NFL life has landed Rashard Mendenhall in Southern California.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' 2008 first round draft pick, Rashard Mendenhall, retired back in March from the NFL after his short one year stint with the Arizona Cardinals.

Mendenhall's retirement has led him to purchase a $1.4 million three floor home in Santa Monica, California. The former Steelers running back's new home has 1,800 square feet, a fireplace, lofty spaces, gourmet kitchen, two full bathrooms and appears to be a nice buy after the running back reached a settlement against Hanesbrand, Inc. over a wrongful termination of his contract with them.

In his time with the Steelers, Mendenhall's best years came in 2009 and 2010 when he eclipsed 1000 yards rushing both years; he is the most recent Steeler to do so.

Mendenhall is still at the young age of 27, but chose to retire in order to preserve his health. Mendenhall said he wanted to live his own life after his time in the NFL and become his own man without the expectation of being a representative of the NFL and his sponsors from his athletic days.

It looks like Southern California is where that journey begins for Mendenhall. Best of luck to him.

$1.4 million for an 1,800 square foot, three story home? Those are some small floors..

I wonder if he wants to buy my house. I'll sell it for half that price.

Call him what you want, I say he's was smart. Like some one who gambles, he took his winnings and left, as opposed to leaving it on the table..

Nice Investment on Mendy's part but give him two years he'll be trying to get back in the league just like Tiki Barber did.

Yes, but think he can work part time and pay his utility bills and taxes.
He is smart for not buying a $10m, 20,000sq ft. mansion.
He seems like a "simple man". Kudos to him.

That's not what I was getting at. I agree that he is smart for not dropping $10m on a 20,000 sq ft mansion.

I was just pointing out that 1800 sq ft for a 3 story house is really small for each story. Then the $1.4 million price tag on that it high, but I guess it depends on the neighborhood.

Yeah, I don't get it either. The guy probably never really expected to play long in this league because, of all things, his own health is a priority.

It seems most would rather see players leave everything possible on the field, their own health be-damned by fans because they watch the game on their TV and want to win really, really bad.
