Default Bill Simmons/Cousin Sal Gambling Preview - AFC East

I watched this for the gambling insights, but folks who wager often have some opinions that are of value to anyone who follows the game

Bill and Sal’s 2014 NFL Degenerate Gambling Preview: AFC East

Grantland’s Bill Simmons and Cousin Sal look hard at all the lines, spreads, and odds in the AFC East. Bill is confident about his Patriots, but Cousin Sal thinks the Dolphins and Ryan Tannehill could surprise the league.

Apparently Grantland is doing a segment for each division - hopefully AFC North tomorrow

If someone picks the Dolphins every year as a surprise team, eventually they're going to be right.

But if you keep putting up $$ to back that up you may run out of $$ before you are right

The odds can pull you in at 6.5 - 1

It is like going for someone other than the Seahawks or 49ers (who have looked bad in preseason) to win the NFC if the odds are long enough

BS and CS are degenerate gamblers who admit to an inability to cover three team teases.

Teasers are aptly named - it looks so easy to get better odds and all you have to do is win all the bets in the tease - then zap

One thing I like about Simmons and Cousin Sal is they admit their betting screwups

Their problem is that they don't learn from their mistakes. Also, they don't do over/unders. That's how you win teases.

They always pick 'obvious sucker' games (spreads six points or more) instead of playing the 'Wong teases' or taking their shot on large [home] dogs.

They understand the process, but only to a point at which time they make terrible picks.
