He landed face first on the ice (blood visible). He got up, hunched over and was holding his left arm (in place it seemed). It doesn't look good.

That wasn't pretty.

At this point, I was just happy to see the kid get up after that collision. He literally face planted on the ice after attempting to hurdle a sprawling John LeClair. Shero commented that it is an "upper body injury" and he will be flying back with the team tonight to get further evaluation. That's all that was stated.

If true, this is very good news...........

"Malkin was not available for comment, but was seen leaving the Moncton Coliseum on his own and was not sporting a sling.".

Here's hoping that it is good news. I saw the collision and it looked as if he banged his elbow on the ice as well as hitting face first, but it didn't look like his elbow was at an awkward angle. Let's pray that it's just a bruise or at worst a hyperextension, and that he won't miss any regular season time.

I saw that collision and I really don't know how Malkin was able to get up off of the ice. It was just an unfortunate accident, but I'm sure LeClair feels very badly. I'll be anxious to know his status once he is examined by doctors here.

Penguins' Recchi has broken cheekbone, but OK to play; no update on Malkin
Thursday, September 21, 2006

By Dave Molinari, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Penguins' right winger Mark Recchi has a broken left cheekbone, but it won't necessarily be a lost-time injury.

Recchi said an examination today confirmed the fracture but that a doctor told him he can resume skating and playing immediately. Recchi was injured when struck in the face by a high stick from Philadelphia center Randy Robitaille during the Penguins' 5-4 exhibition victory in Moncton, New Brunswick Wednesday night.

"I could play tomorrow, but the trainer probably wouldn't let me," Recchi said.

The Penguins wll play Washington at Mellon Arena tomorrow at 7:35 p.m.

The Penguins have yet to update the condition of center Evgeni Malkin, who is believed to have dislocated his left shoulder during Wednesday's game.

Not good. Not good at all. Luckily there's still 2 weeks until the start of the regular season, but I don't know how long a shoulder dislocation would keep him out. Hopefully it won't be too long.

My guess would be at least a month or two. Just hopefully it's not too major. But you never know. Hopefully Evgeni is ready to roll soon.
