With the 111th Selection in the 2007 Entry Draft the Pittsburgh Penguins Select......

Luca Caputi

Mississauga • OHL
6'2", 184 lbs. Left wing, shoots left
Born: October 1, 1988 in Toronto, Ontario

Final Ranking: 62 • Mid-Term Ranking: 98 • North American Skater

Central Scouting Report: A power forward with good size… has good strength and finishes his checks hard… has a great work ethic and is tenacious on the fore-check… drives to the net hard… needs to improve his acceleration and mobility… needs to be better with the puck in traffic.

Personal Profile: Nicknames are Coorka (given to him by Mississauga teammate Oskar Osala) or Luca… admires his parents for their support throughout his life and credits his dad for having the most influence on his career… patterns his game after Todd Bertuzzi –"he’s a great all-around player”… most memorable hockey game played: his first OHL game “because of the anxiety leading up to it”… most memorable hockey game watched: 1995 Game #7 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings – “if you watched it, you would know!”… if he could invite any three people to dinner he would choose: Richard Simmons, Jessica Simpson and Queen’s lead singer Freddy Mercury… favorites include: “fake shot, low blocker” (shootout move), Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL team), Sidney Crosby (NHL player), Prison Break and Everybody Loves Raymond (TV shows), The Departed (movie), Mark Wahlberg (actor), Benny Benassi (musician), NHL 2007 and Madden 2007 (video games).

With the 118th Selection in the 2007 Entry Draft the Pittsburgh Penguins Select......

Alex Grant

Defence
1/20/1989
Antigonish, NS
CA
6' 2"
185
QMJHL
SAINT JOHN

Scouting Report: The No. 1 overall selection in the 2005 QMJHL Draft completed his second campaign with the Sea Dogs in second place among the club’s blueliners in scoring (68 GP, 12-20-32, -32). He also finished third on the team with 108 penalty minutes… has excellent offensive instincts and a very projectable frame (6-2, 185 pounds)… needs more work on his skating and defensive-zone coverage… must also learn when--and especially when not--to jump up into the play, as well as cut down on critical mistakes that lead directly to goals against…

With the 141st Selection in the 2007 Entry Draft the Pittsburgh Penguins Select......

Jake Muzzin

Defencemen
WOODSTOCK, ON CA
6'2''
206 lbs
Slt Snt. Marie

Profile: Huge shot, very physical ultra aggressive; downright mean at times;, feet are getting much better, thick kid, very strong physically, improving dramatically, looking to carry the puck more, physically man-handles guys, becoming poised and confident, fast rising; jumps into offense smartly; great gaps; erases opponents; needs work on puck poise; throws very good breakout pass; needs to work on separation better; still raw and needs lots of time and refinement but great combination of size/strength/aggression

Sportsnet Profile: The biggest wild-card on our OHL list. Was the Hounds' first rounder in '05 and was rated 12th that year by Red Line Junior, but missed the entire 2005-06 OHL campaign with a back injury. If he can return to his 2004 pre-injury form he could be a beast. Big and strong with good mobility for a man his size, though could stand to work on his first-step quickness. Plays a mean and tough style, always looks for the rub-out. Rocket for a point shot, though he needs to work on a quicker release and getting it low and on net more consistently. Boom or bust potential.

Info on Tim Brent:

Tim Brent

Position: Center
Shoots: Right
Height: 6-0
Weight: 188
Birthdate: 1984-03-19
Hometown, State: Cambridge, Canada
Acquired: Drafted 75th overall (3rd round) in the 2004 Entry Draft

Prospect Grade: 6.0 B

History

Brent was the Major’s first pick in the 2000 OHL draft out of Cambridge Jr. B and the 2nd pick overall. The Cambridge native was the captain of Canada's gold medal-winning U-17 squad at the Six Nations Cup in the Czech Republic. In the 2002-03 playoffs, Brent became the Major's all-time playoff goals and assists leader. Named to the OHL Eastern Conference All-Star team (02-03), Named Major's Top Faceoff man and Scholastic Player of the Year (02-03).

Named Team Captain of Team OHL in the RE/MAX Canada/Russia Challenge in 2003. Named OHL player of the week for the week ending on Nov. 9

Originally selected 37th overall (2nd round) in the 2002 Entry Draft. After not reaching a contract agreement with Anaheim, Brent re-entered the draft for the 2004 Entry Draft and was selected again by Anaheim.

Talent Analysis

Brent is a player of average size, but above average talent. He plays a great two-way game with decent speed and some grit to it. He often surprises defenders with his ability to pounch on turnovers and his determination to put it in the net. He's an elusive puck carrier and an excellent stickhandler with soft hands and the ability to get control of a pass very quickly. He is excellent in the faceoff circle and pays attention to the defensive end of things as well.
Brent still needs to gain more strength and he could also gain more speed as well. After that, all he needs is some pro experience.

Future

Brent continues to get better and better. Though his professional debut is probably something he would rather forget. Brent's gritty all-weather game will someday be the pivot of the Ducks third line, but that won't be for at least a couple more seasons. Plenty of ice time and keeping healthy will go a long way towards bringing his offensive output in line with his defensive contributions.

Brent might just be depth for Wheeling or SWB.

Dustin Jeffrey

205
OHL SAULT STE. MARIE

Scouting Report: In his third OHL campaign, he tied for 12th in league scoring with 92 points in 68 games. He also led the Greyhounds with 58 assists… a strong playmaking center with goal-scoring acumen, he was passed over entirely in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft… has the size (6-1, 205 pounds) NHL teams love from the center position…

I'm thinking this is depth at SWB. The Pens have a lot of Center depth already. So, I have good reason to believe that this is for the Baby Pens.

Canada alert: If you want a hometown hero, take them when you have the chance. We gladly welcome Esposito to the City Of Pittsburgh

Great size pick ups by Ray.
