Wow what an entertaining game last night and got to see it all! 0.4 seconds left and Guerin with the great pass from Malkin phewww! And just had that feeling we would take it in OT and the steal from Staal was amazing and Dupuis finished! What a game and a win thank goodness!

End of injuries anywhere in site???

Goligoski could be headed to Penguins' shelf
Buzz up!By Josh Yohe, Daily News Staff Writer
Monday, November 16, 2009

The Penguins' remarkable bad fortune with injuries may have struck again. Alex Goligoski, the team's leading scorer among defenseman, did not practice Sunday and sounds iffy for tonight's game against Anaheim at Mellon Arena.

"He's been banged up," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "It was a maintenance day. Monday, we'll take a look at him again. Hopefully, he's in the same condition but we'll see. We're trying to treat him and get him better. We'll see Monday."

Goligoski missed a practice on the team's recent West Coast trip because of illness but did not miss any game time. He is seventh among NHL defensemen with 14 points and is fifth in the league with a plus-11 rating.

The Penguins' power play hasn't converted in 28 consecutive chances.

"There is a certain process you have to go through in a power play," Bylsma said. "It starts with the breakout, the entry and the retrieval. And that's something we can do much better. If you only have 30 seconds of zone time in the power play, the frustration can build."

Defenseman Sergei Gonchar has been cleared to practice without wearing the "no-contact jersey." The cast on his broken wrist was removed Wednesday. He could return to the lineup in fewer than two weeks.

Center Mark Letestu looked comfortable in his Pittsburgh debut against Boston. He was a plus-1 in 7 minutes, 56 seconds of ice time and centered the third line with Matt Cooke and Pascal Dupuis.

The Pens have recalled Nate Guenin from WBS due to Goligoski's injury:

Quote:
The Penguins have recalled defenseman Nate Guenin, a Hopewell High School graduate, from their farm team in Wilkes-Barre.

Guenin's promotion suggests the Penguins are, at the very least, concerned that injured defenseman Alex Goligoski won't be available to play when they face Anaheim at 7:38 tonight in Mellon Arena.

If he gets into a game, Guenin would join Ryan Malone and Bill Thomas as the only local natives to make a regular-season appearance with the Penguins

I guess the Hockey Gods are still pissed...

Seriously though, this really isn't funny anymore. I've never seen one team suffer so many injuries in such a short period of time. If Goligoski can't go, we will be down 4 of our top 6 defensemen. Either they're going to have to outscore teams to win like they did Boston on Saturday or Fleury/Johnson are going to have to stand on their heads every night with all of the rubber they're going to face.

EDIT: If anyone goes over to the PG today to read that article, you've got to read Dave Molinari's Q&A where some idiot Pens "fan" actually suggested the Pens trade Crosby because "he's a bust." I kid you not. I mean, let's not forget that he's won a scoring title, MVP, Pearson, was 2nd in the league the past 2 postseasons in scoring and was the youngest captain in NHL history to lead his team to the Stanley Cup Championship. Yeah, Ray Shero should get on that right away.

Any more questions about how completely freaking fickle and fair-weathered Pittsburgh fans are?

Penguins defenseman Goligoski out 2-3 weeks with injury

Penguins defenseman Alex Goligoski is out 2-3 weeks with a lower body injury. He is having an MRI today.

The Penguins will play against Anaheim tonight without defensemen Sergei Gonchar, Kris Letang, Brooks Orpik and Goligoski.

Nate Guenin, a Pittsburgh area native, will replace Goligoski tonight. Jay McKee and Mark Eaton are the only defensemen playing tonight who were in the lineup on opening night.

The Penguins are also playing without forwards Tyler Kennedy, Max Talbot and Chris Kunitz.

"It never seems to end," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "Hopefully we'll get some relief soon."

We'll dress 4 AHL defensemen AND play a midget, just to make it interesting.

McKee - Guenin
Skoula - Lovejoy
Eaton - Engelland

Welcome my friends to the show that never ends...

At this point, I just throw my hands in the air, and hope the call-ups play well. What else can you do?

Well let's just hope Sid and Geno are enough and lets hope for the best. Ducks have their back up goalie in knowing they could roll all over us tonight, but anyway GO PENS!
