Default So, should betting be illegal?

Word reaches me that the land of free enterprise is about to make it illegal to bet over the internet.

How can this be?

Every week the favoritism of footbal games are demonstated in terms of betting odds.

Does anyone here participate in online poker and the like?

Do you bet a few dollars on the football?

Seems like another version of prohibition to me.

I love to gamble, but I've never wanted to gamble on line. I know some people who play poker on line, and they claim to be very successful at it.

I don't know. It's so easy to see those things that happen on line as different from what happens in real life; but if you start gambling on line, the drain of the bank account is very real. I had a friend who got paid well; he made about $70k a year for doing not much. But he lived at home with his mom and his paycheck was always gone by Monday. I forget what he played, online slots I think. I lost track of the guy. It was always kind of pathetic, to have him borrowing lunch money on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

So, did I answer the question? No? OK. Tentatively, I think it's OK to not allow gambling on line, but I could be swayed.

While i'm too young to gamble at casinos, I believe this shouldn't be illegal. If people want to gamble away their money, then they should have the right to. We are a free enterprise, capitalistic, style country. If we let the government tell us wether or not we can gamble, we're starting to loose that.

I know guys who play the slots here down the pub - even if they win the Jackpot it all goes straight back in.

For some of them its the playing the game that is important, not necessarily winning huge amounts.

The internet makes all actions, good and bad, easier and quicker but ultimately if you are a fool youre going to find a way to blow that paycheck.
