The Steelers scored off that drive and away we went.

If Ben is a threat to run for positive yards that not only adds yardage but forces the defense to come towards the line to stop Ben.

Ed.B. of the P-G had some thoughts on this today:

Perhaps it merely is coincidental that in the game after Bill Cowher advised Ben Roethlisberger to take off and run if he saw some room and no one open that the quarterback did not run at all Sunday night. He was sacked five times, but had no runs. To date, he has two runs from scrimmage for minus-one yard. Last season, he ran 31 times for 69 yards. As a rookie, he ran 56 times for 144 yards.

Yep - it makes things happen when Ben takes off one one of his mazy runs - mostly good things but you have to take the rough with the smooth if it goes wrong now and then.

One of Bens problems in his first year was giving up on the pass way too early and taking off running , but gradually he found a nice middle ground where he ran with the threat of breaking a 10-15 yard run but also kept his eyes peeled to hit a WR in space.

This was very effective as the Pittsburgh O-Line tends to waver between dominating and dominated on an unpredictable basis.

I dont believe for a minute that Batch should return for the Steelers - Ben is the man who has to have the faith of his co-ord and HC - it should be remembered that he is the guy who lifted the Steelers from perennial playoff bridesmaids into the real deal last year.

Meanwhile, the other elements of the squad must produce their very best football - so that when/ if Ben returns to form he will have a team that has a shot at the postseason.

For the record, I think it will be another 2 weeks @ Oakland before we see Ben resemble his old self.

To avoid beating a dead horse like a borrowed slave,....i will not talk about the quality(OR LACK THEREOF) of our "WR" corps. ( I've spoken on that enough)
Ben's strength's have always been his ability to improvise and buy time in the pocket for plays to breakdown,....and go "Backyard". He isn't and maybe never will be a cerebral passer with great timing, accuracy and recognition skills.
That being said,......he needs a productive power running game to keep us out of 3rd and longs and sell play action.
He need's a running attack that will make teams stack the box,.......so that he can complete the "high percentage" passes. (When he HAS to)
He need's exceptional, aggressive, and talented receivers with size to adjust to balls that are thrown behind them, above them and short (If deep). This has ALWAYS been the case for the brief time he's been in the League and why he's not celebrated as one of the best in the game. Why he's considered a "Manager",.. even in light of our SUCCESS AS A FRANCHISE.
I'm not knocking him or trying to sh#t on him,.........ive always said and believed this. (Since 2004) The bottom line though is simple,......Ben is our Qb and field general for better or worse. The front office has just as great a responsibility to put the correct type of personnel on the field with him,.......as he (Ben) has to evolve and become the true "Quarterback" that he should hope to be remembered as being.

"Hail Caesar,...........HAIL THE BLACK AND GOLD"
