Default Q&A with Chris Kemoeatu

Q&A with Chris Kemoeatu

Steelers second-year guard Chris Kemoeatu (pronounced kay-moy-AH-too) made his first NFL start Sunday against Kansas City. Kemoeatu replaced the injured Kendall Simmons in the lineup, and the Steelers offense never missed a beat in a 45-7 rout of the Chiefs at Heinz Field. Kemoeatu, selected in the sixth round of the 2005 draft, made a smooth transition after spending his rookie season and the first four games of his second year on the sideline. Born in Hawaii, Kemoeatu is the second member of his family to play in the NFL. Older brother Ma'ake is a defensive lineman with the Carolina Panthers.
Question: Everyone on the offense was effective against Kansas City. How would you rate your first NFL start?

Answer: It felt great, just to know that I can do something for the team. If anybody was to get hurt, I know I could be there to back them up. I think I did probably around a 7 (out of 10). Overall, it was pretty good, We practice to go out and work hard, just as hard as the starters. As far as everything, it turned out pretty cool.

Q: After reviewing your performance against Kansas City on tape, what things do you need to work on?

A: There's always room to get better. Get better in terms of technique, seeing things a little quicker, moving your feet. Sometimes, I play too aggressive, play every play 110 percent. That's good sometimes. Sometimes that's bad. I have to calm down a little. That's the good thing about playing in the middle of two great guys like Jeff (Hartings) and Max (Starks). They really help you out as far as technique, wrinkles that I can't pick up or I don't see. They really do a good job of helping me out as far as making play calls.

Q: You mentioned being aggressive. Have you always been an aggressive player and has that always been to your benefit?

A: I used to (trash talk). There was an incident with me in college where I kicked a guy, and they made a big deal about it. I really tried to calm down. That incident happened in the heat of battle. I kind of overreacted. In the pros, you get suspended, they take a whole bunch of money from you.

Q: The Steelers play at Carolina on Dec. 17. Are you looking forward to having the chance to play against your brother?

A: My brother called me after our game (against Kansas City). He said you did a pretty good job, you looked good out there. I watched him play a little this past week against Baltimore. He did pretty good. I thought I was going to get some playing time in the preseason (Pittsburgh and Carolina played at Heinz Field on Aug. 31). I thought he was going to come in there, but the coach told him not to. One day. The day will come.

Should be the starter RIGHT NOW.

Here's a little Kendall Simmons stat for you

"The Steelers are 16-1 with their second-teamer starting at right guard over the last 3 seasons."

Vincent & Kemoeatu > Simmons

i agree that he should be the starter, but i think he needs to start next year and sit most of this year first. i definitaly think he is better but i would rather give him time than rush him into a big part of our offense.

That's a very interesting stat.

The time for Kemoeatu to start is now... Simmons has struggled and its time that something is done about it and I hate to see Simmons but someone has got to stand up and take control of our O Line... he is big tough and takes no Crap off anyone...Kemoeatu that is...
