Alexander, Seahawks reportedly agree on deal
KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) ? The Seattle Seahawks and running back Shaun Alexander have reportedly agreed on a one-year contract, avoiding a possible training camp holdout. Alexander, designated as Seattle's franchise player, signed the $6.32 million contract on Tuesday, The Seattle Times and The News Tribune of Tacoma reported, citing no sources. The contract is worth the same as the franchise tender and is fully guaranteed. Associated Press calls to the team and Alexander's agent, Jim Steiner, were not immediately returned. The contract includes specific language that prevents the Seahawks from placing the franchise tag on Alexander at the end of this season. Alexander must also approve any possible trade during the season, according to the reports. Seattle opens training camp on Friday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. Alexander is coming off a franchise record 1,696 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns last season, but missed the NFL rushing title by one yard last season. Alexander criticized coach Mike Holmgren after Seattle's season-ending win over Atlanta, saying he was "stabbed in the back" by Holmgren because the coach had called a quarterback sneak that Alexander felt cost him the rushing title. He later apologized for the remarks. Seattle won the NFC West last season with a 9-7 record, but lost to St. Louis 27-20 in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
