I know it is somewhat misleading when every game seems to include something (kick, fumble, INT) being run back for a TD, but as of this morning the Steelers are 14 out of 16 teams in the AFC and 27 out of 32 in the NFL in points allowed, with the 254 points allowed being less than only the Titans, Texans, Lions, Cardinals, and 49ers. Not a good neighborhood to be in.
To the extent there is any doubt, the drop off in the defense this year was clearly exposed by the Ravens. |

Although he was out of line for saying it, Townsend was correct when he said several weeks ago that the defensive schemes appear to be too predictable.
It may be that after 2 years and a lot of succcess, the rest of the league found a solution to the Steelers D after spending a lot of time this offseason breaking down what LeBeau has done. Combine that with lousy play from the CBs and OLBs, as well as LeBeau being another coach that may have lost focus as he supposedly is considering retirement, to get one more piece in the puzzle of a rotten season |

its pretty simple from a coaching standpoint on both sides of the ball. if you have a player like reggie bush you want to isolate him on a linebacker. if your opponent has an aging 5'10" corner you want to isolate him on your tallest wr. like szar76 said, his only downfall has been genetic. |
