Default We need this ...

to get our heads on straight. What a long offseason. not only do we play almost a month longer than everyone else, think of all the draining press coverage, media and fundraiser events, promos, i mean the list is endless. what this looks like is a star struck steelers team that is a little tired, a little banged up, but lost a LOT of confidence. i think this season will really put a lot of things into perspective. cut some fat. regroup. fill some holes this offseason and keep chugging after a nice long rest this offseason. i honestly think they are just worn out and need a break. badly. This team has star players at the core positions, just need to get some young talent in. our WR's look good. got a franchise QB. an explosive running back (although it couldnt hurt to add a nice powerback for the tough yards). they need to get some help on the o-line, but i think its apparent this season that our offense can hang with anyone (then ofcourse a game like the ravens happens).
As far as our defense is concerned, we have an extremely talented and YOUNG secondary. a pretty solid defensive line (although we could use a nice pass rusher) and still a pretty solid group of LBS (although we could use a good young LB with a motor on him).

i guess if there is one posititve thing to take from this season it is this: instead of having to play indy or jacksonville and Denver or SD, the steelers will get houston or tennessee and oakland or KC next year while the bungles and ratbirds duke it out with indy and SD

well, im not scared of the likes of indy and san diego, and we lost to the likes of the raiders and falcons, so im not putting too much into getting an "easier" schedule (even though it did help the ravens and hurt the bengals for 2 games this season).

next year i think we get the nfc west and afc east. (cake walks)

I will be looking forward to our favorable schedule next year, assuming our losing trend continues. I hope for the best this year still, though. I'm obviously not talking playoffs; whether you like it or not, we are not making the playoffs. I just hope this team plays for pride and spoils alot of other teams' hopes for a superbowl run.

The longest drought the Steelers have had in the last 30 years was a 4 year span in the mid 80's, where we didn't make the playoffs. This team has far more talent than those 80's teams did, and I don't see them being down for the count past this season if they draft smart and can pick up a few FAs who can come in, learn the system and fill a couple of those holes in our problem areas as others above have mentioned. I have complete faith that our Steelers will bounce back next season and put this miserable year behind them - most of these guys have too much pride to have it any other way.

Where did you get the schedule? I thought some in-conference opponents were contingent on where a team finishes in the division, which is not known yet.

In addition, isn't it the NFC West, with games with another division (AFC and NFC) being split up home & away?

you are correct ... each year we rotate between two games between two differenent AFC divisions ... next year we have the AFC south and west. so lets just say we finish in third place ahead of cleveland. next year, we will play the third best team in each of the AFC west and south. the ratbirds will most likely have indy and SD, cincy will get J-ville and denver, we will get tennessee or houston (pending on who finishes third) ... and then most likely KC from the AFC west

thats a pretty awesome schedule i must say so myself ... thats 9 games vs. teams with sup .500 records as of right now. outside of our division we only play three teams with a winning record
