Default Jerome Bettis' Father Dies

The father of former NFL star and Detroiter Jerome Bettis died Tuesday after suffering an apparent heart attack while driving in West Bloomfield.

Johnnie Bettis was 61.

Lt. Carl Fuhs from West Bloomfield Police Department said police received a call early Tuesday afternoon about a man slumped over the wheel in a car on Maple Road near Farmington Road. Fuhs says it appears Bettis was having a heart attack and pulled his car off the road without causing any accident.

Three people who saw what was happening stopped and administered CPR before emergency workers arrived. Bettis was taken to the hospital, but died.

"I have to commend all the people who stopped, they gave it a valiant effort and you can't thank them enough for trying because they really worked hard to revive him," Fuhs said.

Jerome Bettis retired from the National Football League after his Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl in Detroit last February. Johnnie and Gladys Bettis took part in the parade in Pittsburgh following the victory.

Move this if it's in the wrong catagory.
