Don't believe for one minute that there isn't a huge hockey following in the Burgh. We love our Pens here and believe me, we'll fight tooth and nail to keep 'em right here where they belong.

Actually - a hockey game is very reasonably priced here, imho. The Pens have had an installment plan for years now where you pay a certain amount over a 6 month period instead of having to pay for the season all at once like the Steelers. Mario Lemieux has gone above and beyond to make Pens' games affordable for season ticket holders as well as fans attending random games here and there. The Pens also hold some very nice promotion nights and are very kid-oriented.

I am not upset with Jerome Bettis or his Mom - we all have different reasons for supporting who we do in this ongoing saga. I'm sure Hines Ward feels totally different, as he (and Jeff Reed) are semi-regulars at the games - XT and I see them quite often. I"m praying with all my might that our Pens remain here in Pittsburgh.

HtG,

I guess I'm too out of touch with the hockey pulse in Pittsburgh. I'll defer to you folks lucky enough to still live in da 'burgh. I just remember back in '91 my mother gave me a pair of tickets for a Pens game. They were like $65. It still strikes me as alot to pay for tickets.

I do hope the Pens stay in Pittsburgh. But personally I don't think it would be as tragic as losing the Pirates or God forbid the Steelers.

Remember when the Browns were taken away from Cleveland? I was saddened by it. anyway...

It sounds like that IOC deal would be a lot better for everyone all the way around, which is why it won't happen. Right?

Well, from today's news. Mario is putting the Pens future in the Pens hands.

PisnNapalm, I'm sure since you are out town you might not follow this situation as closely as those of us who are here. Completely understandable. It's not like our situation (Penguins, slots license) really makes the news on ESPN. ESPN is more focused on what T.O. does next instead of hockey in general.

Just a few points though.

It's not about just losing the Penguins. We are losing income from future concerts, circuses and other conventions. People who pay little attention to this situation fail to realize that fact. It's not just about hockey.

PNC Park sits empty during the offseason and half empty during baseball season. You have a baseball team with horrible ownership, half-ass attendance in a league where I feel they will never be a legitimate contender. A league that doesn't have a cap.

Then we have the Penguins. You have the greatest hockey player in the world on your team, surrounded by excellent young talent. We are not talking about a Stanley Cup victory in this teams future. We are talking about a dynasty in the making. A league that does have a cap.

I'm still not completely understanding the ticket price problem. If you go to Heinz Field your paying the exact same prices if not more. At PNC your tickets may be cheaper but there's a reason for that...........they suck and they need all people they can get in those seats. The Nuttings would sell their souls and their grandchildren in order to line their pockets.

Yeah, if I had to choose, I'll take the team with the promising young talent with a building which could be used for other events over a baseball team who hasn't touched .500 for the last fifteen years.

Great post 83! The Pirates have sucked for how long and like 83 said can barely fill the stadium. The Pens are being soldout and have the potential of bringing the Stanley Cup back to the Burgh in the next few years. A lot of people care about hockey in Pittsburgh.

Thanks Prosdo.

Just for the record, I don't want to see any of our sports teams leave this city. As much as I can't stand McClatchy/Nutting, I still watch the Pirates on TV and cheer for them to win. At the same time, I will not and never will spend a cent in that ball park and directly give my money to the McClatchy/Nuttings. I've had enough of their bullshit and false hopes.

What get's me started are the one's who state "The fans don't deserve the Penguins" or "The people in Pittsburgh don't care about hockey" or "Pittsburgh is not a hockey town". That's bullshit. The people who make those statements were obviously sleeping in the early to late 90's. You couldn't talk to the person next to you when a goal was scored.

Over these last four years we have stunk and we still packed a nice arena. This was after we gave away all of our talent and were sitting at dead last in the NHL. We have had one of the largest hockey TV markets, we have had 93% or so capacity during this "losing" period over the past few years.

If people want to look at horrible hockey markets, look at Nashville, Florida and Phoenix. Not Pittsburgh.

i am a bandwagon hockey fan thanks to my loyalty to pittsburgh teams and primarilly mario and jagr. then again. if you grow up in NM, AZ, and soCA, without cable (this is before the stars, kings, avalanche, or coyotes or even the penguins stanley cup runs) you barely even know what hockey is.

but what i do remember is kids on the street while visiting pittsburgh playing street hockey in the summer. when roller blades came out? watch out.

my uncle's 1st date with his wife (my aunt who loves EVERYTHING penguins) was to a pens game about 24 years ago. if the penguins left pittsburgh it would almost ruin it for me. THE KANSAS CITY PENGUINS??????

but bandwagon fan or not i do know who kasperitus and u. samuleson are and watched the 5 1/2 extra periods of the playoff game several years back. mario scoring 8 points against the rangers was great.

but now we are not going to have an arena, and a move to kansas city looks likely. i am going to the game Steelers game sunday and i will be showing my support for the PENS.
plz make banners and whatnot to show your support. maybe we will show the politicians that the right thing for the city is a new arena.

jerome bettis and his mom have backed the casino company that has won the license and his mom has called it an "act of god" they do not care about the city of pittsburgh and thus are ruthless. the rooneys were even saddened by the decision to have a slots casino on the northshore.

PLZ IF YOU ARE GOING TO THE GAME SUNDAY SHOW YOUR PENS SUPPORT!!!!
I`m sick to my stomach, pver the thought of them leaving. We have the best young team out there, we`re on the verge of the 92, 93 seasons all over again.

PLEASE STAY MARIO!
