Default A look at our players

Now that our season is over: this is what I feel about our players

OFFENSE:
Big Ben: off season problems or "sophmore slump" in 3rd year? Next seson will tell if he is our QB of the future.
Fast Willie: proved himself again this year
Davenport: not our answer as powerback
Kreider: Still a work horse
Miller: could be great
Ward: awesome
Holmes: will become a great receiver
Wilson: good bye
washington: # 4 receiver behind REID next year
Smith: Not very impressive this year
Fenaca:His name got him into the pro bowl
Hartings: should retire
Simmons: I hope Kemo wil replace him..
Starks: ? needs to prove himself in the off-season

Defense:
Smith: In my opinion...one of the best in the league
Hampton:When was the last time he made a big play?
Hoke: Needs to be replaced my a rookie
Keisel: Proved himself this year
Porter: Will he be a steeler next year?
Farrior: still playing good
Foote: may be starter next year
Haggens: best of our line backers?
Townsend: #3 cornerback next year
McFadden: promissing young CB
Taylor: I believe he will bounce back next year
coulcough: worthless
smith: Starting safter next year....Like what i see
Troy: Best in his position
Reid needs a better year
Gardocki: still no blocked punts......but they do not travel as far....we need a replacement....

We will have a high draft pick this year....We should trade it away for more draft pick to bring in more young talent......OR...Draft either a DT or Cornerback with our first pick

Steelers will be back next year

Ben is our QB of the future...case closed... yes other players you brought up might not be there in 07, and I trust the front office can make those choices in the best interest of the future...

But #7 is our QB...period

Pretty much agree with your entire post Fam. As far as the Draft,... i want to say Corner in the first. But i just don't think any of this year's crop warrant a pick as high as we'll have.
The best DB is a Free Safety,....Laron Landry. And though i like Ant (Smith),.....i'd still pull the trigger on a talent like Landry. (That is unless of course the Organization has the courage and or vision to Draft Qb Troy Smith )
We need help on the O-line. But there's more than enough depth there to land a quality player later in the draft. (I just don't feel a team should get their "Robert Gallery" on early in the 1st round)

Offense
Simmons has to go. Just doesnt have it.
Hartings has to retire. Too old and slow now.
Starks must rebound or let go.
Wilson - gone. Never showed anything even last year.
Defense
Porter will leave after contract not re-nego'd - he'll end up in Denver or New York
Clark - will play STs for a year then gone. He's lost his starting pos through tentativeness and inability to make a play.
Gardocki - gone. Watch Cincy block one in his last pro game.
Must draft - LB, WR, OL, DB

The way I see it, our biggest needs are:

OL. Very inconsistent and to be honest, until the SB run last season they weren't all that impressive. We need to find someone who can play RT - hopefully Starks will improve as it is just his 3rd season, but his performance this season has not been good at all. We also need to address the C and G positions, as Faneca is getting up there in age, Hartings is done and Simmons hasn't returned to his form from 3 years ago.

CB. Obviously Ike Taylor's re-signing was a bit premature. He was thoroughly exposed this season and his play last season, IMO, was a product of the system. He will get another chance to prove himself - his contract pretty much guarantees that - but I don't have much confidence in him and obviously the coaching staff doesn't either.

LB. No depth whatsoever there, and if Porter leaves, it's even worse.

RB. Parker has more than proven that he is an elite RB in this league, but he needs a viable running mate. Verron Haynes will have a chance to be that guy when he returns from his injury, but we need insurance in case it doesn't pan out.

P. Chris Gardocki has done nothing to prove that he deserves the job next season. Today's performance pretty much sealed his fate.

WR. After Hines and Santonio, there's no one there who scares anybody. A nice deep threat and/or tall WR would be nice. Cedric Wilson has played himself right out of town, and Nate Washington has been too inconsistent.

That's my take.

Ageed - Hampton is the key to our D. He is quite easily the best NT/DT in the game today. If you disagree, bring it on !!!! Hoke, too, stepped in and stepped up when Casey went down in 2004.
