Default THE SPOILERS AT WORK

i know im always on kirwans jock but he perfectly verbalizes why i love the nfl (and the steelers in particular)http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9900961:

I can't speak to effort issues in other sports, but the National Football League doesn't have a lot of quitters. Last week, I spoke about 'spoilers' and the attitude of so many players who play for teams out of the playoff hunt. This is one great league full of competitors. And the performances in Week 17 that the Steelers, 49ers, and Lions delivered on the road against playoff-caliber teams renew my faith that NFL is the best in town. The efforts from players like Ben Roethlisberger, who ran down the field with his fist in the air after he delivered the winning throw to rookie Santonio Holmes, or Frank Gore, who close to exhaustion in overtime found ways to grind out yardage, or finally Jon Kitna and his Lions teammates matching the Cowboys score for score down the stretch. You would never know Rod Marinelli's Lions had 15 players on IR, 10 of whom started at one time for the Lions.
i am very bummed the steelers season is over, and cant wait till next season but heres to an entertaining playoffs.

I think Kirwan is solid. He covers the NFL rather than being just another fiddle in the ESPN orchestra.

The team that surprised me the most -by far - is the 49ers. Not only because they punked Shanahan in his house.

Nooooo. More importantly is that the Bengal fans and Ocho Cinco now get to spend all year knowing that it was the Pittsburgh Steelers who beat their Mucho Grande playoff hopes back to earth like rotten avocados and not a Bronco victory. Add the Rose Bowl and I'm sleeping like a baby tonight.
