The Jets have begun negotiations with the agents for cornerback Ty Law, who has relayed to the team that he prefers to play in New York for coach Herman Edwards, two people familiar with the talks said yesterday.
The pace at which discussions will progress remains unclear, given that Law's negotiating position will only improve as NFL camps continue and the specter of injuries to starting cornerbacks increases. But one person familiar with Law's situation said the prospect of avoiding two-a-day practices isn't as much of a factor as first believed. Should Law pass a physical and sign with the Jets, he would not be expected to practice twice a day anyway. Though Law hasn't spoken personally with Edwards since early in free agency, the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback has continued to relay his preference to sign with the Jets through various channels. Jets running back Curtis Martin spoke with Law recently but declined to disclose the nature of those conversations.

As if we didnt have enought spice with the upcoming season without this little sub-plot!
I dont pretend to know Ty Law but I am sure he would take it as a challenge to to ram the Patriots decision not to agree to his exorbitant wage demands right back down their thoats. I am hugely excited about the thought of seeing him lined up on the opposite side of the ball, however I will stop being excited pretty darn quick if he makes any game changing plays..... I cannot see how the Jets can justify his salary but maybe they are slightly more 'in the know' regarding the state of his physical fitness. A fit Ty Law can come back to haunt us - but we live for drama like this dont we football fans? Regards NM |

If Law is healthy he will be a good fit there. Also I do think it is always interesting seeing a player go up against his former team.

The New York Post reports CB Ty Law's deal with the New York Jets is a three-year, $23 million contract. "It's a done deal," a Jets insider told the Post Sunday evening. The deal had been held up because the Jets had wanted a clause to protect them in the event that Law re-injured his foot. The deal is worth $6 million per season and included a $5 million signing bonus.
