Whiz Snatches Steelers Asst. Coach

POSTED: 9:56 am EST January 20, 2007

TEMPE, AZ -- The Steelers' former Offensive Coordinator reportedly will have a familiar face in his new offices.
According The Arizona Cardinals Football Club's website, new head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced Saturday that he hired Kevin Spencer as special teams coach.
Whisenhunt noted, "Special teams is such an important part of the game and can be the difference between wins and losses. Obviously we want that area to be a strength for our team and we're confident it will be. Kevin has always been successful getting the most from his players, whether it was Antwaan Randle El or Mike Vanderjagt or an undrafted free agent on playing on kickoff coverage. "
Spencer moves to Arizona with over a decade and a half of NFL coaching experience. He spent the last five seasons here in Pittsburgh as the Steelers' special teams coach.
In his second season with the Steelers, Spencer was selected as the 2003 NFL Special Teams Coach of the Year by his peers.

Great move! Good riddance Spencer!

I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say even I could coach Randel El........well........you get my point. And yeah....that liquered up kicker was quite the player, wasn''t he?

I'm looking forward to receiving our first punt..........with special teams under a new wondercoach!

Noooooo!!!! He can't have LeBeau cause I said so!

I'm not sad to see Spencer go, but I wish him good luck in AZ.

Wow - just devastating news.

I guess the only question is whether Troy & Ben will be having joint or separate press conferences to announce that they wish to be released from their contracts and will be going to Arizona to play for the league minimum in order to have a chance to continue to play for the legendary Kevin Spencer.

This hire is the equivalent of having someone steal a car you were trying to figure out how to abandon.
