so you are saying that lebeau is gonna train and tutor his boss to learn a new system as the teacher earns less money? if thats the case, they might as well make lebeau the coach and tomlin the coordinator. keep in mind lebeau has won a superbowl as a coordinator, and been a head coach in the league. just on that alone, lebeau is more qualified than tomlin. atl dan is right and you are right. if tomlin is hired, im not expecting playoff bids evey year. im looking at our next few seasons like i did when we were 2-6 this year. play for pride and provide some entertaining games (which the steelers did). if this is the direction we are gonna go, hines and porter need to be released and polamalu needs to be traded for draftpicks to begin rebuilding (after all, none of them did anything to prevent us from being 8-8 this season) i think the steelers will want to attempt to keep ben. if he wants to be paid as a top 7-10 qb in the league he may consider offers from the browns though. we will see if the rooneys are the ones making these decisions or the new coach. im kinda hoping its the new coach. |

Don't you think Mike Tomlin might want to win right away? If he wants to win right away he will work with LeBeau and keep the 3-4 for right now. Its not like LeBeau is a spring chicken. Coach LeBeau is almost 70 years old and doesn't have alot of time left in his career. So its safe to say LeBeau will be gone in the next couple years.
But Grimm is now reported to have the job. So this conversation about Tomlin might be pointless anyways. |

my 1st post upon hearing that tomlin was the new head coach was that he immediately needs to call lebeay and ask him to remain the steelers dc. if the steelers are smart, they would place stipulations to tomlin that he keep him and the current system in place untic a smooother transition can be figured out. again. who the hell really wants the tampa bay cover 2 in pittsburgh? if anyone does can you please say WHY???? (changing for the sake of change is not a good enough answer) |

I hope LeBeau stays, but the only thing I might add is that WHO ever's the HC might want to try and prove they can win with their own ideas and schemes.

Whoever the new coach is, I just hope that he keeps our 3-4 alignment atleast for now. We have too many talented players for this scheme right now to just up and change everything. We havent got 10 years left on all our players careers right now. Troy I think would fit just fine in the 4-3 but it would mean that he would have to cover more and I believe that he is smart enough to do so, but does he have the speed to do so? I know that ESPNNEWS has it at the bottom of their screen that Tomlin will be named Steelers head coach.

I would hope that if Tomlin is the man, he would keep the coaching staff intact. Spencer is gone (and already forgotten) and I feel we have a pretty good nucleus of coaches that remain. If Grimm is the guy, I don't really see him changing anything other than probably promoting Arians to OC, which leaves the WRC open.
Personally I think the Rooneys should give all of us Steelers fans 2 tickets each to a game at Heinz as just and equitable compensation for raising our blood pressure and anxiety levels!

Steelers put out a press release this afternoon saying that they have not picked a HC and they will not pick one today. If the Bears lose today they still want to interview Rivera. IMO I hope like hell they don't pick Tomlin or Rivera, they need to pick Grimm and stay in the organization and with somebody that already knows how things work in Pittsburgh.

Why do so many fans think that we need to promote Grimm? The way things work in Pittsburgh really don't work out all that well last year did it? And don't give me the old "we're only a year away from winning the Super Bowl" line because we all know that we weren't the best team in the NFL last year we were just the team that caught fire at the right time. Some of the old vets need to get a little jolt. There were too many guys collecting paychecks last season. |
