NFL.com wire reports
LATROBE, Pa. (Aug. 10, 2005) -- Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter underwent surgery to remove loose cartilage from his knee and is expected to miss four weeks. "We expect to have him for the opener," coach Bill Cowher said. Porter, 28, injured the knee Aug. 9 during a one-on-one pass-rush drill with rookie offensive tackle Ulish Booker. Porter's knee became swollen that night and he underwent an MRI examination the next morning. The surgery was performed by team physician Dr. James Bradley. "Joey had problems with the same knee a couple years ago," Cowher said. "I think we'll have him back a little bit sooner than (running back) Duce (Staley)." Staley underwent knee surgery Aug. 8 and also is expected to miss four weeks. Cowher said James Harrison will fill in for Porter at right outside linebacker. Harrison, 27, started in two games last season. http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/PIT/8724360 |

I glad we got Harrison as a backup. He played very well against Cleveland last season.

No doubt..let these injuries happen if they're gonna.. happen now, so everybody is fresh for Sept. Joey doesnt need preseason games to get in shape. He'll be ok, and he won't be missing the opener if he can help it, u can bet on that!
Harrison, this is your time to shine man!! |

Not the news I like to hear, but I do prefer it happen to the vets during training camp. This way they can heal up and be there for the important games.

We're gonna have a hard time hanging onto Harrison when his contract is up. If he continues to impress when he gets his chances, he's gonna be something special. Which may make Haggans expendable when the times comes. U never know.

No offense intended, but surgery doesn't have a good spin to it. Yall are right about Harrison, though.

Hate to see a ggod one get hurt, but you gotta have good 2nd stringers. Depth is key in my opinion. I think this impacts Alonzo Jackson more that Harrison. Jackson needs to shine to let Cowher know he can play in the NFL or he is cut this preseason. I'd like to see Alonzo Jackson step up and play big Monday night rather than find out he is a bust. We are thin in the LB's this year after the top five.

Camp barely started and the injuries are already piling up. Luckily the 2nd string is almost as good as the 1st.

I am glad it happened now and it seems to be minor than 2/3 weeks into the season and he ends up missing 6-8 weeks of regular season games.
Thank God for Harrison,he'll do really well.Maybe this will mean Alonzo will finally get cut because they see how much he sucks?
