Default Rivers Out of Probowl

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2739779

Quote:
According to the source, Rivers would not have been able to play in the AFC Championship Game had the Chargers gotten past the Patriots. He was initially injured in the final regular-season game, a 27-20 Chargers win over the Cardinals Dec. 31.
There, now Brady can be in, everyone happy? Is the universe not going to explode now that Brady is in the Probowl?

And the Chargers still have 9 PBers since Marcus McNiel got in.

Hey boLT, I have no problem with Rivers going to the Pro Bowl over Brady, I do however have a problem with Carson Palmer's selection over him.

I'm not wild about him either, SteelersBabe, but the fact remains that he is the primary reason they went 12-4 and got to the AFCCG. What the hell did Palmer do besides go 8-8?

I'd rather Brady gave the whole pointless episode a miss to be honest - I dont mind the idea of an AllStar team picked form each conference but its pointless to physically play it out.

You have no idea how these players would mesh in a real game - the whole idea is redundant.

I remember reading a column awhile back stating that American sports place such an emphasis on Pro-Bowls and All=Star games because they have no international competition in their national sports.

The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.

Tough break for Rivers, although I assume the Pro Bowl incentive clause in his contract still kicks in - guess Marty had bad luck in reserve to assure he would not make the SB in the event he would not have coughed up the loss to the Pats.

Hard to bitch about Brady going - Pats are a .500 team without him.

I agree with LITP that an all star football game is a joke - they do not let you blitz to try to avoid players getting hurt but injuries are unavoidable. The less Steelers playing in it the better as far as I am concerned.

LITP - was it a Pat running back (Robert Edwards?) who destroyed his knee and effectively ended his career in some beach/flag football exhibition nonsense at the Pro Bowl several years ago.

i bet many patfans dont remember edwards (pre-2001). his injury was so bad they initially thought they may have to amputate his leg. it was his rookie year and he was very promising. later won comeback player of the year with the dolphins but didnt do much after that. they say these games are meaningless, but i was watching the beach bowl when it happened. i guess, as long as people watch they will still have them. brett farve in the skills competition was great when he was chucking the ball 80+ yds downfield.

sucks for rivers, hopefully brady declines, but with chick going, they will probably wanna spend some down time on the beach together.

Palmer going is almost as bad as Romo going.

Why does everyone say the Pro Bowl is worthless? Why are you even looking at it like a regular game, anyway? It's a game meant to be FUN, not with a lot of competition, it's just a good way to wind down the season and watch all the greats play together.

Holy crap, people.
