Greg Lloyd was a very good Lb'er, who became a monster of a Lb'er, when Kevin Greene started manning the other side of the field. Not to discount the talent of our Lb'er's, but the difference between this teams outside backers and Lloyd/Greene duo, is that Lloyd and Greene could get a pass rush even if the Steelers were not blitzing. Porter and company just don't have as much natural pass rushing talent. You can throw Chad Brown into that mix in the middle as well.

I'm skeptical with this too. I would like to see both of them, but that can't happen as of now. I think I'll wait till Training Camp and see. That's the most official way of looking at it at this point. As for Joey's contract, he might he the latest to holdout...

I agree - and I think Tomlin should take the approach coming into his first training camp that everybody, with the exception of possibly WP and Taz, has to earn their spot. Yes, that includes Ben.

Porter if he wants a contract he better play out of his shoes this coming season. Porter plays against some of the best linemen in the game and of course he is going to have games with less production, teams practice to stop porter the week before the game. If he decides to hold out.. Cut em.. Harrison is ready. I will be happy with ether one in there.

And Ben fighting for his job now that is funny. Tomlin cannot wait to work with him.

Smith and Clark battle is a good one. Smith made some very impressive play and very hard hits for a rookie and looks like he will be a starter ether this year over Clark are next year for sure.

Lets hope they work on the offensive line.

I think the saftey battle will depend on overall talent and who ever works best with Troy, because that was a big topic last year. Although some people might question the staffs choice with teh secondary performance last season.

Back to Porter and Harrison, they each have good qualities. However, they both have weakness that could make or break thier position. But these could be resolved, or even added to, during camp.

Please allow me to rephrase myself - I really want Tomlin to come in and be a firm disciplinarian more than anything else. Discipline was something sorely lacking in the '06 Steelers, let's face it.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Tomlin is pretty young himself. So it will be interesting to see how he will be with discipline.

your post is money since76. yes, our season was ruined by turnovers, but the root was lack of discipline.

As long as he can help eliminate the boneheaded celebration and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties (which bailed quite a few of our opponents out of punting situations this year) - that's all I ask.

Our guys DID do some of the things they were penalized for (and they weren't "right" in doing them--they should know better). However, I couldn't help but notice that during some of the same games WE were penalized for say... a roughing the passer--the other team could do the very same thing 9and even worse) and get away with it. That wasn't right either. If you call it on one team, call it on the other.
