Default Another letter to the Commish

Dear Commissioner Goodell:

I would like to address to you the changes that are quickly ruining the sport that I love.

I have been a fan of football, and the NFL for 30+ years. From growing up playing Pop Warner leagues through high school, and watching Super Bowl after Super Bowl. Sometimes meeting at local establishments with friends and family or going to their houses for parties. And once, I was lucky enough to be able to purchase tickets to the Super Bowl.

However, I have been disenchanted with the way the NFL is moving. It seems that the NFL is quickly forgetting the fans of individual teams that have pushed the NFL into the position it is in today. It starts with the limited amount of tickets that are available for fan purchase ? even if a person?s favorite team makes the Super Bowl ? ticket allocation is a farce. And now, for Super Bowl XLI, there is news of tailgating not being allowed within a mile radius of the stadium. A true signature of any NFL game is the fans in the parking lot with grills, coolers, and camaraderie!

Take a look at history Mr. Goodell. The NFL has made countless videos (and needless to say millions of dollars from the sale of those videos) reflecting the fan and their pre-game festivities. The NFL has already stolen the biggest game away from the true fan and now you?re going to take away the one celebration that fans relish, before and after the game.

Have you allowed the NFL to sale out to Corporate America, all the while racking the fans over the coals again and again and again? Have you forgotten that we, THE FAN, support the NFL by supporting our favorite teams? Are we the fans just the means to get what you want ? more money? Is that all we are, a dollar sign to you and the owners?

One final question Commissioner, when will you return the game to the fans?

Sincerely,

I don't know if he'll read it but it feels good to get it off my chest. I never received a response to my first letter. So I figure this one will get ignored too.

At least it's out of your system now.

Excellent letter, stlrtruck, as always.

Goodell may open it himself if you put a phony P.O. Box number coming out of Shitsinnati as the return addy. He'll think it's from another Bungal shipped off to the pokey. They get more respect around the league than the fans who foot the bill.

Great letter Stlrtruck!

Alot of sports fanbases across the world are becoming disenchanted and cynical about the continuing preference of TV/money/media over the people that make it happen - the fans.

We have a similar problem in the soccer world.

Maybe you could write this letter (or a copy of it) to one of the Pittsburgh journalists/ papers - it would stand a much greater chance of being heard if it came through an official media channel.

It would certainly be alot harder to ignore anyway.

The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.

That's a good idea LITP (and I didn't think patriots fans thought after the season was over - just kidding)

ok, LITP, I took your thoughts and put them to action. I sent a copy of the letter via newspaper websites to the Post Gazette in Pittsburgh and the St. Petersburg Times (because this is where I live afterall).

So we'll see what happens.

Well the St Pete Times printed my letter in the Sports Editorial column yesterday (2/1). I'm just curious if the Pittsburgh Post Gazette did. I think today I'll forward a copy to the New York Times (I wonder if the commish reads the paper)!
