Polamalu granted name change . . . to Polamalu

Steelers All-Pro defensive back Troy Polamalu today was granted his request to change his name.

He will now officially be known as Troy Polamalu.

That's the name he has been using for the past 15 years, including during his Steelers career.

But his legal name, until today, was Troy Benjamin Aumua.

In a quick hearing this morning, Allegheny County Judge Judith Friedman approved the player's motion to make his mother's maiden name his own.

According to a petition he filed, he has used Polamalu as his last name for the past 15 years. His parents divorced soon after he was born in Orange, Calif., in 1981.

His full name is now Troy Aumua Polamalu

Wouldn't it have been easier if he just used the name "Hair" or something like that.

Anyone who knows him would have known it was really Polamalu.

Yeah, I heard about this about 3 weeks ago when they were going to have the hearing. I figured they were gonna change it cause no one really calls him by his given name. Hmmm....Aumuafan43.... nahhh...hehe

It's good thing, too.........I would hate to have to replace my Jersey with one that says Aumua. Besides, all the talking heads have just learned how to pronounce Polamalu......pah-la-ma-loo........ma-na-ma-na..........

Interesting! I wonder how he managed to convince the NFL to use "Polamalu" instead of his legal name. They're so strict and boring when it comes to rules.

For once I don't think the NFL really had any idea at all that it wasn't his real name. I mean, if the guy can go 15 years without anyone asking questions...
