We all have talked about first round possiblities...but I thought I would throw out some sleepers for the later rounds
Tonight I will post some Offensive Sleepers and tommorrow my picks for Defensive sleepers Please add any that you think the Steelers may look at in rounds 3-7 OFFENSIVE SLEEPERS QB Jordan Palmer UTEP 6'5 235 Not that we need one but I thought it was interesting that Carson Palmers brother will probably go in the later rounds...He is accurate when not pressured..unfortunatly he was pressured constantly due to a very bad O-line and his interception numbers are a direct result ...With coaching and a decent line..he would probably be a very good backup RB Deshawn Wynn Florida 5'11 238 Good como of size and speed...very powerful between the tackles....excellent lower body strength and very difficult to tackle...downside is that he is not a very good reciever...upside is that he does not have very much wear and tear on his body. WR Chansi Stucky Clemson 6'0 185 Runs a 4.35 40..started his college carrer as a QB...missed some time his senior year with a broken ankle...very good hands and was used on "trick plays"...very good runner after the catch....needs to work on ironing out the rough edges on running pass patterns. TE Joe Newton Oregon St. 6'7 256 Knows how to get open in the red zone...reliable hands and remarkably for his size is a great leaper..called a hard worker by his coaching staff...Blocking is above average and with direction will get better C Leroy Harris North Carolina St 6'3 300 Good Strength and Nasty attitude on the field...will finish every play...4-year starter...will do whatever coaches ask of him...married with a child and very stable. OG Marshal Yanda Iowa 6'4 305 I LOVE this guy....Very good feet..can pull and has good balance...a technician with very good football intelligence...may go later due to needing to bulk up..but the team that can give him a year will get a steal...incredible upside OT Tony Ugoh 6'5 314 Good size..athletic and quick..VERY strong and can slide pretty well...may end up as a left tackle if he reaches his potential and the right coach lights a fire under his butt...able to play either side or at guard... LOL....and to think that the "Fridge" was considered too big at 300!!!....I just meant that he can and will add to his frame. This guy is seriously on my wishlist in later rounds...last time I was this sure of a lineman...we never had a chance at him. He pole-vaulted to the first round and was picked up by the Patriots.....Logan Mankins.

Again...these sleepers are NOT those that we will be picking in the first two rounds..but rather players to LOOK at in the 3-7 rounds
Defensive Sleepers DT Antonio Johnson Mississipi St 6'3 300 Great size and very quick ...very strong, powerful and athletic...didnt play his senior year in High School and then played two years of JUCO...only had two years of real coaching so the sky may be the limit on a team that gambles on him ln the later rounds and gives him an opportunity DE Ray McDonald Florida 6'3 280 Very good athlete with tremendous upside....explosive is the word used most in regards to his anticipating the snap count...Very strong and a sure tackler...disruptive and makes plays in the backfield ..another hardworker. OLB Stewart Bradley Nebraska 6'4 250 Good size and great instincts...able to take on the blocker and disengage...Very physical...above average coverage skills...Can pass run and blitz..but lacks elite speed. 3 time national rugby champion...(obviously not afraid of contact!!!) ILB Anthony Waters Clemson 6'3 242 Very quick...Can play every LB position...ACC's top returning tackler entering the 2006 season..but tore his ACL in season opener...most teams will pass on him because he may not be ready at beginning of this season...but a team who doesnt have an immediate need should grab him in the 4th or 5th round....getting a potential future starter. CB Jonathan Wade Tennessee 6'0 195 Physical and aggressive, good tackler...Not only fast..but quick and able to recover...only played the position for two years (was a WR) and is still learning...member of the Vols record setting 4X100M relay team. S Josh Gattis Wake Forest 6'1 212 Very smart player...aggressive and always moving..more quick than fast...but great ball skills...Wont back down from the big hit....Could be a ST demon with potential to be an above average backup P Daniel Sepulveda Baylor 6'3 230 Very strong leg..able to pin opponents behind the 20...two time winner of the Ray Guy award for nations best punter...started his career as a LB...and can still tackle if needed. If we want him...we would have to get him in the third ..or MAYBE the 4th round K Justin Medlock UCLA 6'0 197 NCAA Consensus All-America ...not the prospect that Mason Crosby is..but a very, very good kicker who may turn out to be Elite....4yr starter who can kicked two 50 yarders in one game...finished an incredible 28 for 32. |

The player that keeps coming to my mind as far as a sleeper is
RB Germain Race out of Pittsburgh State at 5'11 and 225 lbs he is a TD Machine out there and he could be very valuable to our short yardage team. Or RB Tyrone Moss from Miami,Fla.

Definitely shore up the O-line....Hartings and Faneca are getting old.
We also need a couple of young linebackers for the future. |
