He was very talkative and in some mild pain which is also to be expected, as his incision stretches from between the clavice down to his navel. The doctors and nurses were pleasantly surprised at how fast he is progressing and are moving him to the cardiac step-down until later this afternoon. He is in good spirits and was starting to take fluids. They said he may be able to be released early next week which will make him very happy - like me - he isn't fond of being confined!

Please keep those positive vibes and prayers coming!

Your continued prayers are very much appreciated!

Ken is in a lot of pain post-op, but that is to be expected with open-heart surgery. Coughing drives him out of his mind, but he has to get that gunk out of his lungs. The docs told him this morning that he has a bit of fluid accumulation in that left lung again, so they started him on breathing treatments several times a day to aid him in expelling the mucous. The occupational therapist took him out yesterday on several mini-walks and he was exhausted afterward, again which is to be expected. He doesn't have much of an appetite and I told him he needs to eat to get that protein into him to build strength. The docs all feel that he is doing pretty well considering the seriousness of his condition pre-op and only being 3 days post-op. If he continues to progress, he may be discharged on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I just spoke to Ken on the phone and the docs are thinking of discharging him this afternoon, which is great news! He won't know until his docs confer about it, but it's looking pretty good!

Thank you all again for your concern, support and most of all - your prayers!

HTG.

That is so wonderful to hear.

Now please do a favor for me. Remind him of all the prayer to our Lord Jesus Christ, and the fact that he was touched by God to make it through.

Thanks,

Preacher

Sorry - I spoke too soon. Ken still has some fluid on that lung and is still dependent upon the O2, so the docs felt it best to keep him for another day or two. The cardiologist told him tonight that the echocardiogram he had yesterday showed that the new valve is working well and his ejection fraction is close to normal, which is indeed good news!

Yes, Father - Ken was most definitely touched by God's healing grace. No doubt about it!

Yesterday when I went in to see Ken, he was still having a lot of trouble catching his breath, even with the oxygen running. He also has some pretty severe swelling in his ankles and feet now which he didn't have the day before. He is obviously retaining fluid and the docs increased his diuretic and limited his fluid intake yesterday to try to get him to expel the excess fluid which he wasn't doing much of. I'm not a doctor, obviously, but this sounds kidney related to me. I am going to call the cardiologist today and see what is going on and what further tests they intend to do. He is one week post-op today and should be improving, not going backward. Please keep those prayers coming - he definitely is not out of the woods yet.

When I left the hospital earlier, Ken was being given 2 units of blood because of his low platelet count. The swelling in his feet and ankles has worsened and the docs are going to do a needle aspiration of his right lung tomorrow morning to get rid of most of the fluid surrounding his lungs. It is a very painful procedure but doesn't take long, thank God. Ken has gone through so much - it just breaks my heart to see this once very strong and confident man feeling so helpless right now.

My pastor visited him about 1/2 hour ago and Ken called to tell me how much it meant to him. Ken is not an overly religious person, but does believe in the Lord. He said he felt such an inner peace while praying with Father Mike and that made me feel some inner peace, as well, knowing that he felt God's presence so strongly.

Thank you all for your continued prayers.
