just wondering how all you in steeler nation feel about townsend, i feel he is washed up he was beat many times last year, had alot of interference calls against him, i feel we will draft another corner. to compliment taylor and mcfadden.

He is getting pretty old. He's an underrated tackler for a cornerback, but he gets beat alot due to his height and age. He made some good plays this year...idk. I'd like to hear from some other members on this one.

I thought DeShea played all right last year. It was telling that he kept his job as Taylor was demoted, and rightfully so I felt. I think that part of the reason that Darren Perry wasn't kept on staff was that Taylor regressed under his watch last year. If Taylor is able to come back strong this year, he and McFadden make a quality pair of starting corners, and Townsend has enough to be a contributer at nickel.

I do think corner, like OL, is a position you should spent at least one draft pick on almost every year. But I don't think it needs to be a high pick this year -- one of the tests of Mike Tomlin and his new staff will be to get our current guys back up to a high level in coverage.

I think Deshea did OK last season, nothing spectacular. He played injured a couple of times.

Maybe you guys actually in Pittsburgh know something I don't, but I don't know why Ike was demoted from his starting position. The games I saw him play in, he played well, didn't get beat deep or have any glaring bad plays.

Townsend?

He's been pretty solid imo.

The Steelers have had better CB's but they have also had worse.

Much worse.

Yes, and as a solid backup if someone gets hurt, I think he is valuable to keep around. Also, I think DeShea's work ethic is good for his younger counterparts. Taylor and Mcfadden have to know that if they don't step it up in training camp, DeShea could work himself right back into the starting lineup again.

i think he's good for depth and as a backup, i don't want him starting, but he should still be on the team and help mentor the younger db's

I agree - whenever I find myself becoming frustrated by the current secondary's play, I think back a few years to Charred Scott and DeWayne Washington....
