Default Where will the new NFL expansion teams be?

The NFL wants to put a franchise back into Los Angeles, if they do it by making it an expansion team then they will need to balance things out by adding seven more expansion teams. Where should these teams be? What will their nicknames be and what division will they be in? If you want to add team colors and other details that would be fun too. This would most likely be the NFL's last expansion so it has to be good. Here are my guesses:

Some of these I have thought of off the top of my head so they might be kind of corny, but others I thought were cool for a while. Each Conference has an international team.

AFC
North: Louisville Knights
South: Birmingham Vulcans
East: Toronto Sharks
West: Las Vegas Vipers

NFC
North: Dakota Warriors
South: Mexico City Toros
East: San Antonio Scorchers
West: Los Angeles Leopards

Talks been going on for 2 years on this subject and its not going to be expansion it will be a move of a team from within to LA, and 3 teams that have front running spots is Saints, Jags, Bills. One of them 3 teams will end up in LA. Chargers on the other hand in OCT was given permission by the league to start talks in January, which has already started to maybe move to Las Vegas, remember now, Chargers want a new stadium and the owner is going to try and get them a new stadium were ever. Vikes was on the hot list for LA but is getting a new stadium and will stay put. It has also been said that possible the Bills and Jags if Saints move might take over the Saints old dome.

So who really knows what will take place. It is better to sit and wait instead of making guesses..

But my money is on this, they will not make a expansion of 8 more teams do to the fact it would require and additional 2 games for each team expanded the league to 18 weeks along with additional 2 weeks in pre season that would expand to 6 weeks. Which would cut into camps. With the additional weeks of games teams would have to have additional players and a roaster built possible as deep as 60 players and they would have to really up the salary cap to keep enough players on each team for a season. Then you would have hafe to have 16 team playoff bracket instead of 12 to be only fair and compensate. Now that would even add a additional playoff week.

It just will not happen no way. More teams, More money, More Players, More injuries, Longer seasons, less time for camps, Less time to heal, shorter careers.

Oh man... I hope they do not choose to water down the league anymore.

The league would like to tap into the Hispanic market (on SB weekend the NY Times had a long article on how that is one demographic with which the NFL is getting little traction) and to do that an expansion franchise in Mexico City would be the ticket. However, 2 big problems would be getting the stadium sold out at US ticket prices and recruiting players to live in Mexico.

Will be sorry if it is the Bills that fill the LA slot, but everything I read indicates Wilson does not have the skill set to keep a small market team in a declining economic area competitive.

Speaking of moving teams, I thought the Cardinals should have went for a name change. I know that AZ has cardinals too, but it just doesn't ID Arizona very well. I guess it's because the State Bird for Ohio is the Cardinal. I was thinking of something like:

Arizona Firebirds (this would be my favorite)
Arizona Azteks (this would appeal to the "across the border" crowd.)

Saints will not go, that has already been stated when their owner really wanted to move to San Antonio. It has been advertised by the League that they WILL stay in NO.

As for the Chargers; While it is true that they were given permission to speak with other cities, the caveat is this: they are allowed to speak to cities in the San Diego area only. National City is one of the front runners, as well as Chula Vista. They are still right there, barely 20 minutes driving time (barring traffic, of course) from the current QualComm Stadium.

It won't be expansion,a team will just move. The league won't do any more expansion because it would be impossible to bring 8 teams into the league at once.

Teams that might move:

Jacksonville Jaguars
Buffalo Bills
Cleveland Browns (just kidding)

This was meant to be a hypothetical thing, like "if" the NFL went the expansion route where should the new teams be from and what would their nicknames be. This is not meant to analyze wether or not they should go the expansion route. Just pick cities where the NFL could thrive and think of cool nicknames. This should be fun!!

Well it may look at within its own counties but if Chargers do not find something they want they could move and it can be to Las Vegas.

The Chargers can leave San Diego after the 2008 season if they pay off the approximately $60 million in bonds the city issued in 1997 to expand Qualcomm Stadium.

The Chargers effectively became eligible for free agency on Jan. 1, when cities outside the county could begin contacting them.

Mark Fabiani, who's heading the Chargers' stadium effort, said he returned Goodman's(Las Vegas) call on Friday, telling the mayor that the team will continue to look for a site within San Diego County, "for the time being."
