Wow........it seems his brother recently had a heart transplant and now he collapsed and died after a charity basketball game. It sure sounds suspiciously like he had also had a heart problem, too. How sad.

Broncos' RB Damien Nash Collapses, Dies
(CBS4) ST. LOUIS CBS4's Gary Miller is reporting that Broncos' running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis. The Denver Broncos have confimed the report.

"We have been informed of the passing of Damien Nash," team spokesman Jim Saccomano said Saturday night. "We are attempting to get more details; we do know it's true."

Officials at Christian Hospital in St. Louis said the 24-year-old Nash died early Saturday evening. The cause of death wasn't immediately determined.

Nash was a second-year running back who joined the Broncos as a free agent on Aug. 3, 2006. He played in three games with the Titans as a rookie.

According to the web site STLtoday.com, the celebrity basketball game featured nine NFL players and took place at Riverview Gardens High School in St. Louis.

The proceeds of the event were to benefit the Darris Nash Find A Heart Foundation, which raises money for heart transplant research. Darris Nash, 25, is the older brother of Damien Nash, who was a standout running back at Riverview and East St. Louis. The foundation was created last month, after Darris Nash received a heart transplant.

The Broncos are still reeling from the slaying of Darrent Williams, who was shot once in the neck while leaving a New Year's Eve party in his rented stretch Hummer in downtown Denver hours after the season ended. His slaying remains unsolved.

"The Denver Broncos organization is once again struck with profound sadness over the tragic loss of one of our players," team owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement. "This is a tremendous tragedy and our hearts go out to the entire Nash family."

Head Coach Mike Shanahan was contacted while in Indianapolis for the NFL scouting combine along with general manager Ted Sundquist.

"The Broncos family has suffered a great loss with the passing of Damien Nash," Shanahan said. "I am stunned and deeply saddened by this tragedy, and send my deepest condolences to Damien's family."

Nash was from East St. Louis, Ill., and played two years at Missouri after playing at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. A fifth-round draft choice by Tennessee in 2005, he played in three games for the Titans before his release.

The Broncos signed him as a free agent last season and he played in three games, rushing for 98 yards on 24 carries.

And we thought we had a bad offseason last year?? Here's a safe and uneventful off season in the Burgh.

Just unbelievable.
