Steelers waive Scott, Simmons
Monday, August 22, 2005

PITTSBURGH ? The Steelers made two roster moves today, releasing one veteran free agent and one rookie.

Pittsburgh released veteran free agent wide receiver Sam Simmons and rookie free agent running back Chad Scott.

Simmons was signed by the Steelers on Feb. 1 of this past year and was allocated to the NFL Europe League. He spent last season on the Miami Dolphins? practice squad. Simmons played in the first 11 games of the 2003 season with the Dolphins before spending the final five games on the injured reserve list with a left ankle injury.

Scott was signed by Pittsburgh on Aug. 8 as a free agent. He originally signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent, but was released.

The team must reduce its roster to 65 players by Tuesday, Aug. 30. The final cut-down to 53 players is Sunday, Sept. 4.

The Steelers officially break camp on Thursday, Aug. 25. They play at the Washington Redskins on Friday, Aug. 26, before closing out the preseason with a Sept. 1 contest at the Carolina Panthers.

Oh well, lets not act like no one saw this coming :P
