Default Patriots | Samuel will not report to team's offseason program

Patriots | Samuel will not report to team's offseason program
Mon, 12 Mar 2007 06:02:56 -0800
Albert Breer, of the MetroWest Daily News, reports New England Patriots CB Asante Samuel will not report to the team's offseason program without a new deal in place, according to his agent, Alonzo Shavers. Although franchise-tagged free agents are allowed to participate, most players do not in order to protect their financial interests. Samuel is scheduled to earn $7.79 million in 2007 as the team's franchise player.

Seems he is playing a briggs, wonder what will happen next if they do not offer him a deal, if he threatens to sit out like briggs and wants to leave the pats.

Its quite a long, LONG way from being a Briggs situation.

Briggs has basically called out his team owners and demanded a move to another team.

Asant? has said very little to the press on the subject.

As the article states - most players do not report to the offseason program when they are franchise tagged.

As there is a specific thread on this matter i'll throw in a link to an interview he did with Fox25 today.

The reporter (as is the way with too many Boston sports reporters) tries long and hard to find a negative angle on the story but it doesn't really work.

Asante looks pretty content to me, like a long term deal is very nearly done - but thats an opinion call.

They've been great for a while now, three Super Bowls' worth of great. But only this season have the New England Patriots become The Show, the must-see team of stars, pretty boys and reformed bad boys. Suddenly, the Patriots are not simply great; they're compelling, fascinating, appearing to be almighty and a touch lawless.
The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.
