Default Americas Team- 2000 Baltimore Ravens

i hate to say this but nfl films struck gold again. great production. and if youre a fan of the nfl, definitely worthy of a watch. i would suppose most steelerfans would hate the ravens even more after watching this, but i didnt. players like jermain lewis and trent dilfer easilly gain respect and billick and ray ray, give good insight.

as good and dominant as that team really was that year, you are reminded of what huge pieces of crap they are to piss trent dilfer away after that season. for that bonehead move alone, they never deserve to sniff another SB again. it is only fitting that the steelers essentially ended elvis grbac's career, the following year in the playoffs, after signing that multi million $$$ contract the ravens so foolishly gave to him.

You know.. I think the bigger questioon...

Is why we didn't pick up Trent Dilfer. He really was our kind of QB. He can sit in the pocket and throw the pass. He can manage the game. We wouldn't have had to deal with the QB sit. for the next couple of years.

Yes. I am. There is a reason that the Ravens won the SB with Dilfer. Because he could move the offense and limit his mistakes. Then the D. and the running game took care of the rest. That was the way the Ravens AND the Steelers played and wanted to play. At that time, if we had Dilfer, we would have done better then we did in 2001 and 2002, especially 2003.

However, we wouldn't have been able to draft Ben.

But yeah, Dilfer is the QB that you pick when you don't want a QB to hurt you, and back then, that was our desire.

with all due respect preacher,i think your giving dilfer a little more credit than he deserves.he played only slightly better than tony banks

dilfers carear stats....55.7 completion %.....106 tds compared to 117 ints.....qb rating 71.3

hardly numbers that would suggest he was game manager.

There is a reason why the Ravens were able to win teh SB... same reason the Seahawks started turning the corner with him. Not because he was a great qb. Not because he could do things... but because he was able to play WITHIN thier system. That is my only argument. Looking at who we had at QB at the time, are you telling me you would rather have had Kordell instead of Dilfer?

As much as I liked Kordell, and I really did, fact is he didn't fit with the Steeler style of football. Dilfer would have ben a much better QB during that period.

I'm no fan of the Rats,...but i have to give credit where it's due. They had one of the top three defenses ever that season in my opinion. (Along with ours in 76, and the 85 bears)IMO
I was watching all the while,.....secretly a little envious thinking,..."Will i ever see one of our defenses that dominant as an adult ? Or will it always be a matter of a few studs here and there surrounded by 'guests' until they are 'over the hill' and or cap casualties,....and we just repeat the same process all over again ? LOL

SCREW THE RAVENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahem, now that I have got that out of my system, I think that they may have made the right choice. Except, it seemed like America was more estatic when the Steelers won in 2005, but that's just me.

Dilfers stats as a Rat were much better than his stats at Tampa, which is a corollary of what his perspective roles were. In Tampa he was supposed to win games, and in Baltimore he was only asked to not lose. As a starter in Tampa, he had 415 attempts in 1995, 482 in 96, 386 in 97, 429 in 98 and 244 (in only 10 games) in 99. In 2000, he only had 226 attempts, and the rats won the Super Bowl. I'd rather have a guy play conservative and error on the side of caution than have Kordell winging INT's all over the place, especially in AFCC games...
