Alright I was looking at the article on Steelers.com talking about Hines Ward. At the bottom it says:
Notes: The Steelers also announced the names of the eight rookies/first-year players who were signed to the team?s practice squad. The players include LB Andre Frazier, OG Jim Jones, DE Shaun Nua, LB Dedrick Roper, WR Chris Samp, DE Eric Taylor, FB Zach Tuiasosopo and WR Walter Young. All of the players spent training camp with the Steelers with the exception of Samp, who was in camp with the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers as a rookie free agent. He is 6-3 and 224 pounds. *Edit* Found this on him: http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/ne...05-528816.html Last edited by Prosdo; 09-05-2005 at 02:27 PM. |

Thanks Sal. I can't find much info on him just yet. It's all basically saying he is waived and such. I'll keep looking.

Winona State?s Chris Samp was named the 2004 NSIC Offensive
Player of the Year. Samp, a senior wide receiver from Algoma, Wis., led the conference in every receiving category. He amassed 1,050 receiving yards and averaged 7.00 receptions a game. He also averaged 21.4 yards per reception and led the league with 49 catches on the season. He also ranked first with 16 scoring touchdowns and was second in the league in scoring with 96 points. He broke the NSIC single-season record for receiving yards (1,050) as well as the conference career record with 2,654 yards. He tied the single-season record with 16 receiving touchdowns and set a new NSIC record with 39 career touchdown receptions. Samp was also named to the NSIC All-Conference first team for the second consecutive season. |

He was also the guy who caught a 67 yard bomb from Andy Hall late in the Steelers v Eagles game to set up a late TD run for Philly . . .

Little more information I found. I couldn't find any clips of him though.
WINONA STATE senior wide receiver CHRIS SAMP has drawn additional interest from Green Bay... he had a private workout with them recently... ran 4.53 in the 40... 4.13 short shuttle... 7.09 three-cone... 36.5" vertical... 27 reps of 225 pounds... weighed 6026, 226 pounds... also worked out at Wisconsin's Pro Day... ran 4.52 in the 40... 4.15 short shuttle... 7.12 three-cone... 37" vertical... 27 reps of 225 pounds... scored 32 on his Wonderlic... Jacksonville, Green Bay and Pittsburgh have all shown additional interest. Quote:
A true small school suprise could be wide receiver Chris Samp, from tiny division 2 school Winona State in Wisconsin. Samp is a tall WR with decent speed. He's 6'3" (215 lbs) and has told local reporters [COLOR=Red]he's got his speed down to the 4.4 area since giving up tennis for football. In 2004, Samp had 78 catches for 1,588 yards and 22 TD's. In his career, Samp accumulated 4,471 receiving yards (2nd all-time D-2) and 53 TD's (third all-timeD-2)..... Samp's head coach Tom Sawyer stated about 15 NFL teams have come to see practice: "He has a little bit of everything to offer," Sawyer said. "He has such great numbers ? receptions, receiving yards, touchdowns. He's 6-3?, 215 pounds. When he was timed by a scout here, he ran a 4.5. He has run in the 4.4s. All the other stuff ? size, hands, route running ? is there"....Samp will play with a number D-1A stars in the upcoming Las Vegas All-American Classic. |
