Colts lose Doss to Minnesota

The Indianapolis Colts lost another free agent today when Mike Doss accepted a one-year, $1 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

The veteran safety is the sixth member of the Super Bowl champions Colts to relocate since the NFL's free-agent signing period began on March 1. That list includes three unrestricted free agents: linebacker Cato June (Tampa Bay), cornerback Nick Harper (Tennessee) and running back Dominic Rhodes (Oakland). Also, two players whose contracts were terminated have signed with other teams: wide receiver Brandon Stokley (Denver) and defensive tackle Montae Reagor (Philadelphia).

Doss, 26, was the Colts' second-round draft pick in 2003. He appeared in 46 regular-season games, 44 as a starter. Doss missed the final 10 games of the '06 regular season and the entire postseason after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Washington on Oct. 22.

Contributing to Doss' decision to sign with the Vikings was the presence of Leslie Frazier on head coach Brad Childress' staff. Frazier is in his first year as Minnesota's defensive coordinator after serving as a Colts' assistant the past two seasons.

what i dont understand is how come no one is counting them out just like they counted us out. in my opinion we lost less, well it looks like another case of the media sucking Manning's balls

The reason why people aren't writing off the Colts is because they haven't lost any key parts, as I see it.

The things that make the Colts tick are Manning, his O-Line, his WR's (inc TE), and the pass rushing DE's - those are the foundations of their success.

They get out to a big lead and then let their pass rushing DE's dominate.

I don't particularly rate their DB's or their LBers - they were shown up to be pretty awful in the regular season for long stretches.

And thats where the majority of their losses have been, back-ups and non-critical players.

Suddenly, the Patriots are not simply great; they're compelling, fascinating, appearing to be almighty and a touch lawless.
The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.

^^I agree with you only because I've watched enough Colts games with my fiance` to know that what LITP says is true.

He-he-he...

The Colts have been hit hard this year. It will definitely show next year. Cato June is a HUGE loss, and Doss and Harper may appear to the casual observer as insignificant losses, but when the injuries hit, as they inevitable will, these guys replacements will already be starting, so there won't be anyone to fall back on. Super Bowl runs are built as much on depth as anything, and the Colts lost a TON of it this FA.

Rhodes and Stokely hurt, too, but not as much. When you consider that the Saints completely rebuilt on 3 key acquisitions, and the Colts have done nothing but bleed players, the reality is that they will be smarting next year.

But they'll still win. Manning is a great QB, and the OL is allowed to hold like no other team in the NFL. They'll put up enough points to win some games, but there will be no repeats...
