Default Tomlin ready for prime time

Tomlin speaks!!!

The spotlight will be on Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin when the 2007 season kicks off and he embarks on his first year as an NFL head coach.

But it will be shining even brighter than many imagined as the team, celebrating their 75th Anniversary, has five games nationally televised in prime time.

"I am excited about it," said Tomlin on Wednesday, after the release of the schedule. "We have the opportunity to play five national televised games. Any time you get an opportunity to put your skills on display in front of your peers it's exciting."

The Steelers will play three of those prime time games right at Heinz Field, with Monday Night match-ups against the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 5 and the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 26. They will also host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 8:15 on NBC.

The prime time line-up hits the road as well, with a Sunday Night game against the Denver Broncos on Oct. 21 and a Thursday Night game on Dec. 20 against the St. Louis Rams.

Tomlin already has a strong feel for his team and thinks that the players will rise to the challenge of playing in prime time.

"I think competitors are motivated by that. I know our guys will be," said Tomlin. "Three of them are at home so that's awesome. It being the 75th Anniversary of the Steelers makes it special. It gives us the opportunity to celebrate that."

Tomlin admitted he was a bit surprised to see that the team has five prime time games, but he understands the reasoning and feels that this year's team will make the schedule-makers happy.

"People realize that the Steelers are an entertaining football team and have been historically," said Tomlin. "They know we should be exciting this year."

The season opens on the road for the black and gold when they travel to Cleveland to take on one of their oldest rivals. It will be Tomlin's first taste of that rivalry which is something that he is looking forward to, but he would be happy with whatever team the Steelers opened up against.

"I would be excited wherever we open," said Tomlin. "It's going to be that kind of atmosphere not only for me, but for the whole football team.

"I am always excited about the schedule. I have never seen a schedule come out that I was disappointed in."
